This is but the first in a chain of events, which will grow in significance until it challenges the Elections themselves as things progress. Not all will be economic and political, either.
At least one of “the shoes waiting to drop” has immediate and direct military significance.

You mean a military alliance between Russia and China?

Yes, but there’s another member of that “Defense League” that will surprise most people. It will become obvious in the coming week or so…

Australia or Japan? Korea would not surprise me.

We might very well need to leave the Philippines, that is, to close down our Subic Bay base and other facilities there, for which we can thank our president. His lack of respect for the Filipinos (as well as his lack of respect for many other of our allies) pretty much ensures this kind of result.

Subic Bay and Clark Airbase were closed in the late 1990s under pRes. Bill Clinton -- our “lease” ran out and was not renegotiated. It is now a “Duty Free” economic zone operated by the Philippine government. Since those closures, the Philippines has been moving steadily out of US orbit economically, aligning primarily with Japan and Australia until recently, and are in the process of developing a substantial relationship with China.

This speech is but a public acknowledgement of what has been developing, slowly but surely, over the last decade…

Ah yes, the PI. Sangley Point was my very first out-of-country duty station. We really screwed up with the Filipinos, as well as ALL of our allies. I doubt we can ever become a constitutional republic again.

PI -- A very beautiful country, and a people I could respect. They like an orderly society. It’s a bit strange to American sensibilities (in a reasonable Asian fashion), but once you know what to expect, you know what to expect.

Clark and Subic may be history, but there are lots of American Expats in Luzon these days doing various tech startups. Costs are cheap there, and smart, motivated workers are plentiful… and the younger ones all speak very good English -- better than many Americans their age. If I was a single man, I’d have to seriously consider doing something like that, myself… alas, time and opportunity; the roads not taken are countless, but not for the sake of regrets.

OK, I’ll give it up -- Russia + China + India == “New Axis of Evil” according to NATO alliance.

Wait for it, because it is coming…

India -- an “emerging market” of just under a Billion consumers (people)

India -- a socialist nation from its founding (separation from England)

India -- a nation already divided dozens of ways, including religion, language, ancestry, and class (Castes)
