Food Hyperinflation – Part II

The above chart (from CNN.money.com shows the price increases for corn, soybeans and wheat for July 18, 2012 and the opening electronic prices underneath for July 19th. Adding the two price increases together shows an increase of 3.16%, 3.61% and 3.51% respectively over a 25 hour period. With gasoline, the price increases at the pump as soon as the price of a barrel of crude goes up. Based on reports coming in, the price of food at grocery stores has already increased.

The government is still planning to convert corn to ethanol (40% of the crop) even though the United States is currently exporting refined gasoline (demand for gasoline in the US is off 50%).
