Here is the speedtest of our Internet using “Verizon Unlimited”. Although the service is advertised as unlimited access, after 10GB in a monthly period, Verizon “may” decrease your speed. We were not close to reaching our limit when this speedtest was run.

We just recently had our cable and internet provider-( Time Warner cable)- switched to Spectrum due to Spectrum buying out TWC.
I was promised faster internet and the same channels we had available on living room tv with reciever box and 1 tier of channels above basic cable on all our tv’s via digital reciever boxes for less than we were paying TWC.
We lost around 15 channels and ‘net speed went from 100 mbs to 47 for download and a whopping 5mbs upload speed.
I didn’t even think the 5 mbs was possible with a cable broadband ISP.
Old upload speed never went below 50 mbs and download varied between 90 and 100mbs.
All ISP’s pretty much suck now.
What Verizon is doing to you is criminal.
0.04 mbps down + 8.4 mbps up is not throttling, it’s a malfunction. First, power-cycle your equipment (modem & router), and re-test. If the problem persists call tech support.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Verizon. I was really hoping it would work out for you and I could move to Verizon and save some $$. I currently use Exede satellite with a 10gb download allowance for $60/month. We have six wifi devices using it and typically we burn up our allowance and are throttled down within the first couple days of our billing cycle, but our throttled speeds rarely fall below 9mbs download and 1mbs upload. I’m very satisfied with Exede, but I’m always looking to save $$. Please continue to keep us updated on your experience with Verizon. I hope they get it worked out for you.

David’s download speed has got to be a malfunction, not throttling. 0.04 mbps is 40 kbps, which is approximately dial-up speed.
David, try a ping test. I’ll bet it’s dropping lots of packets. Open a command prompt and type:
ping -t www.google.com
You should see something like this:

If 1% of the packets time out, that’s arguably acceptable, since Verizon is wireless. If 5% of the packets time out, that’s absolutely unacceptable. I’ll bet yours is worse than that.
I know how to ping but usually usually the specific IP address. I did another speedtest after reading your comment: 7.38 Mbps down and 17.24 up. Same computer and same jetpack. I can see the tower from my house. Let’s say that you are correct and that the jetpack (six weeks old) is faulty. I have bought a new upgraded unit from Amazon and have been waiting to have Verizon return my message about activating/deactivating the units so that I do not get double billed for over a week.
Well, 7 mbps is usable, but probably still not right. Your download speeds should typically be better than your upload speeds. If you can see the tower from your house I think you should probably get at least 30 mpbs down — maybe even better — except perhaps during peak congestion times.
Are you sure Verizon is on the tower which you can see from your house?

Peak congestion times in Murphy, NC? There is only one main road through the county and people call it the 4 lane (because it is the only one in the county).
I am sure verizon is on the tower.
Modify your payments to accommodate their service.
If you’re paying $100/mo, 0.04Mps/10Mbps * $100= a $0.04/mo check.
Seems equitable to the service delivered.
