As we witness the increased secularization of religion and the trending left away from the King James Version of the Bible or the Torah or the Koran, I can’t help but wonder whose words will we heed? WWJD –What Would Jesus Do is something I seldom ponder for as I listened to my father the theologian and Baptist minister explain the parables, I realized many can get on all sides of a subject in interpreting them. The prodigal son as an example left me searching. The son who acted like a fool seemed to be forgiven and welcomed with open arms while the one who stayed home and was obedient may have inherited much, but seemed to be underappreciated. Which do you think the young would chose?
On a visit to a synagogue during last year’s High Holy Days, I was astounded to find there a chapter of a LGBT group=Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender group. I keep waiting for someone to tell me where that’s found in the Torah. Or the ready acceptance of homosexuals into the ministry and other aspects of society previously denied them keeps bringing me to WDGS=What Did G-d Say on the issues? For those flirting with Islam, the Koran’s admonitions are often more harsh in advocating cutting off hands of thieves, cutting out tongues of those who defile with words or stoning to death those who commit adultery or other sexual acts which are considered aberrant. I can’t help but wonder how many in the USA would pass their tests and live to see another day?
In an age of “Girls Gone Wild”, gangs out of control, Jihads seemingly without purpose, ministers engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with minors, it makes you kind of go Hmmm. Watching the developing situational ethics of a generation trying to often justify behavior which seems morally wrong and bankrupt, one must be concerned that we are also developing situational religion. Listening to the voices of those at the Democratic Convention who shouted down reinstating G-d in their platform or reiterating previous support for Israel, I couldn’t help but wonder WDGS?
Have we lost our way?
Could we please pray!!
