December 24th is the Day of Military Glory in Russia, established in honour of the capture of the Ottoman fortress of Izmail by Russian troops in 1790.
This victory was the high point of the Russo-Turkish war of 1787-1791 and a true testament to Alexander Suvorov‘s military genius.
This was one of several conflicts between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, this time sparked by the latter’s attempt to regain Crimea and other territories that had been acquired by Russia in the previous war. Despite a series of brilliant victories by the Russian forces, the Ottoman Empire was still reluctant to accept the peace terms proposed by the Russian Empire.

The history of how Russia took and maintained control of Crimea from the Ottoman empire almost 250 years ago is not a factor in the West’s news cycles. Khrushchev (a Ukrainian) gave Crimea to Ukraine after Stalin’s death.
We have to ask why we are supporting a war in Ukraine for areas that are Russian.
David DeGerolamo
Yes, it does not make sense, what has happened here in the stolen Republic is the culmination of an evil empire, sick, vile and an affront to God Almighty. Russia has a long and storied history and rejects the globohomo agenda.
Why are we supporting a war in Ukraine for areas that are Russian? Because Ukranians do not want to be part of Russia. The same way we decided we didn’t want to be a part of the British Empire after being part of England for more than 150 years.
Your well named given the gist of every comment you’ve posted.
And this is why the government can control us: trolls and propaganda.
Yep, trouble before to disrupt, betrayal later to arrest.
That’s why I keep harping on protect your TRUSTED Family and Friends.
See something, say something later will include rewards like housing and food as our commies seem dedicated to the old school commie methods.
So what exactly is the propaganda? You actually think that the Ukrainians have no agency? You asked a question, and I gave you my answer. Why don’t you address my reply in a thoughtful way?
I am sure quite a few Frenchmen thought it was a waste of time and money supporting those ungrateful American colonists, in our war for Independence. Of course you know that Finland was once a part of the glorious Russian empire (so was Alaska for that matter) When they had a chance, they broke away.
About every Latin-american country was a Spanish possession. Not anymore, because people there decided they no longer wanted to be part of these empires. Pointing that out is not propaganda or trolling. Did this desire to be independent suddenly just end? So if we revolt and decide to get rid of the tyrannical government we now have, will it because we want too or is it that the Chinese want us to fight “to the last American”?
I know, who in their right mind wouldn’t want to be under the righteous, benign, wise and loving embrace of the great and powerful Russia? This may come as a shock to you but, gasp, not everyone does. There are countries that have had decades if not centuries of interactions with Mother Russia, and they still regret it. Or is this also propaganda and trolling?
Your fine words don’t camouflage your pattern of disruptive comments over the year.
Folks here have a memory longer than the average CNN viewers.
So in other words, you have no answer to my posts. Merry Christmas!!
The answer is simple. The people in Crimea and the Donbas are Russian, not Ukrainian.
Yes, they are. They are Russians residing in Ukraine. If they really have such a great desire to be part of Russia, they can move there and be welcomed with open arms.
If not, then I guess Mexico can annex parts of California, Texas, and Arizona because people there are Mexican.
