Republicans Bitten by the Hand that Fed Them

See additional comments on Tea Party Nation.

The Senate Republicans who ate dinner with Obama are now complaining that nothing has been accomplished since they met. Maybe they should have been supporting Rand Paul who was filibustering against drones on the floor of the Senate while they dined in the lap of luxury. North Carolina was well represented at the dinner: Sen. Richard Burr picked up the tab for the drinks at the dinner.

Here is the list of GOP attendees:

The senators at this dinner were John McCain of Arizona, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Dan Coats of Indiana, Bob Corker of Tennessee, John Hoeven of North Dakota, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Richard Burr of North Carolina and Mike Johanns of Nebraska.

Mitch McConnell was not invited. The bill was sent to the White House so we paid for the following:

The appetizer choices were golden beet soup, hamachi tartar, Maryland blue crab risotto, or raw and cooked vegetable salad. The entrée options were roasted striped bass, Colorado lamb açai, filet of prime beef, and lobster Thermidor. For dessert there was peanut butter crumble with caramel apple, Heart of Guanaja chocolate tart, and iced Tahitian vanilla with praline bar.

There is a bright side: Obama is considering reducing the number of drone strikes.

Senate GOP feels jilted after being wined and dined by Obama

Senate Republicans who shared laughs with President Obama over dinner at the Jefferson Hotel in March are grumbling there has since been little follow-through from him on deficit talks.

They say the White House has not set up a process for negotiating controversial reforms to Social Security, healthcare programs and the tax code, and that absence of basic organization has stalled negotiations.

“We’ve made no progress. None,” said a GOP senator who had dinner with President Obama earlier this year. “There’s no process in place. Right now we just have 20 Republican senators meeting and talking to themselves.”
