Isolationalism is part of our founding principles. In the video below, Ron Paul states that we have 900 military bases in 130 countries. This was not the intent of our founding fathers:
“The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.”

Thomas Jefferson reinforced this view in his inaugural address:
peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none
Ron Paul has a 100% voting record in the House of Representatives supporting the US Constitution according to the John Birch Society. Do we support the Constitution or do we make exceptions as needed? Obviously this is a divisive question as is the policy of preemptive military strikes and the new “Right to Protect” policy.
9/11 would not have happened if President Clinton had responded to the initial 1993 World Trade Center bombings as an attack on our country. The tragic loss of life and property in New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville were the catalyst for the war in Afghanistan. Rep. Paul is booed for pointing out why our enemies attacked us. Is he correct in his assertion that the United States will continue to be attacked because of our foreign policy? We may find out in the near future when the surface to air missiles from Libya that are now in the hands of Islamist militants are launched.
