The Statue of Liberty is now closed as a consequence of the government shutdown. The symbolism is evident as people watch. Or are diverted. Which hand are we to watch? Today Obamacare is now in place. What does that mean? For me, it means that my health insurance will increase 68% on January 1, 2014. Looking back over the past five years, I have not received the cost of even one month’s premium in medical costs. I received the following last night from another individual:
I just received my notice from BCBSNC of my new medical insurance premium. I now pay $248.18 for a high-deductible policy for the two of us. It is a 'catastrophic' plan that requires us to pay all regular medical expenses out-of-pocket, which suits us fine due to the low premium. As an independent businessman, I pay for 100% of my premiums, of course. According to the notice from BCBSNC, the equivalent policy under ObamaCare will cost me $968.48 starting January 1st, 2014. I called BCBSNC and they verified that this was not an error or a joke. The notice from Blue Cross also listed all the great things I get in return for a premium increase of 390%: maternity & newborn care [I am 55, no more babies planned], dental & vision for children, habilitative [is that a word?] care, and increased benefits for mental health and substance abuse. So, I guess we are not going to see a $2500/year reduction in premiums as the president once predicted? I knew this was coming, but I am still spitting mad. I am not sure what I will do, but I sure as heck will not accept this tyranny. If others see similar increases, please send details to me. We are working on the means to get the truth about this diabolical law into the public eye and the media. The reason that the public has not been more active on this is that is has not really affected many people, yet. It will though in the coming weeks, which is why its supporters are doing everything they can to get it entrenched before the stuff hits the fan and people revolt. regards, Kent
Now I understand why the labor unions want their exemption:
The unions argue this will decimate membership in their plans as employers dump union workers onto public exchanges.
I used to say that I worked to pay taxes and health insurance which was over 50% of my salary. Since health insurance is now a mandated tax, I work for taxes. Which means that I am a slave: my time and the fruits of my labor are stolen for tribute to an elite class of politicians who have usurped our nation. We only have to see what the consequences will be when the groundswell erupts once people are notified by their insurance companies. I expect the government shutdown will provide cover for as long as it lasts, but the sun is setting on Liberty.
President Barack Obama warned late Monday afternoon that if the House of Representatives did not agree to a continuing resolution to fund the government after midnight that did not curtail the implementation of Obamacare–and that he would therefore agree to sign–the Statue of Liberty would be “immediately closed.”
At the same time, Obama conceded that even if the House refused to pass a CR that allowed the administration to move forward with Obamacare, major government programs would continue. Social Security and Medicare, for example, would go on, and U.S. troops would remain on duty.
Nonetheless, Yosemite, the Statue of Liberty and the museums at the Smithsonian Institution would be closed, Obama warned, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room.
“With regard to operations that will continue: If you’re on Social Security, you will keep receiving your checks,” said Obama. “If you’re on Medicare, your doctor will still see you. Everyone’s mail will still be delivered. And government operations related to national security or public safety will go on. Our troops will continue to serve with skill, honor, and courage. Air traffic controllers, prison guards, those who are with border control–our Border Patrol will remain on their posts, but their paychecks will be delayed until the government reopens.”
