HOUSTON (KTRK) — Officials have confirmed three people were injured during a shooting at Lone Star College on WW Thorne Drive in north Houston and the situation is said to be under control. We’re told two people are in custody.
We’re told two of the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but were conscious when they arrived at Ben Taub Hospital. Both have been taken into surgery in what’s being called ‘relatively serious condition.’
Lone Star College officials say the situation between two individuals ended with three people shot. They add that the danger has been mitigated and the situation is under control. We’re being told two people have been taken into custody. One of the suspects was reportedly wounded in the shooting, and the other was arrested by a Houston Police Department SWAT team in a wooded area.
Students have told Eyewitness News one student and one staff member were injured. This information has not been confirmed by officials.
The Lone Star College North Harris campus has been evacuated and is closed for the remainder of the day. Authorities have sealed off the entrances, not allowing traffic on the campus. Students are being allowed to drive out. Staff and students are advised to check LoneStar.edu for further updates on campus operations.
Students have told Eyewitness News they heard five to six shots. One girl said sounded as if they occurred outside, in an area between the library and the cafeteria. Other students say they saw a wounded person in the library.
Aldine ISD has four campuses near Lone Star on lockdown. Dunn Elementary, Parker Intermediate and Nimitz 9th grade campus and Nimitz HS campus have all been secured. Also, all after-school activities and athletics involving Nimitz High School have been cancelled for this afternoon and evening. The Aldine ISD police chief is monitoring the situation.
As of 2:15pm, the schools remain on lockdown, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has shut down WW Thorne in both directions, preventing school buses from reaching the Aldine ISD schools. District officials say until the sheriff’s office opens the road, students can’t be moved from those campuses.
There was another shooting at Taft High School in California a week or so ago, but it hasn’t gotten much attention. White kid with a shotgun, claims he was bullied. Maybe that’s why no media. Anti-bully trumps anti-gun?
