Flexible Truth

Our society has declined to the point that we expect little, and are rarely disappointed, by our elected officials. Our current president has turned prevarication and untruthfulness into art forms.

Here are some of the more illuminating comments by our current president which tend to indicate that he thinks truth is a pliable as “silly putty” which can be bent or contorted and then bounces away.

• On August 7, 2013 on the Jay Leno program “we don’t have a domestic spying program.” On August 9, 2013, Obama wants to expand the domestic spying program that he said two days previous didn’t exist.
• October 12, 2012, “I refused to let Detroit go bankrupt.” July 18, 2013 headline “Detroit goes bankrupt.” Like Lady Clinton said “what difference does it make”?
• President Obama, “It’s the founding ideals that the flag draped over my father’s coffin stand for.” Obama’s father was buried in his native country of Kenya, he never served in the United States military, and no American flag was draped on his coffin.
• President Obama, “I believe in the Constitution and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We’re not going to use signing statements as a way of doing an end run around Congress.” Actually Obama did what he vowed not to do: 8 times in 2009, 5 times in 2010, 6 times in 2011, one time in 2012, and so far twice in 2013.
• Mr. Obama promised Congressman Stupak that there would be no funding for abortion in the Affordable Healthcare Act and even signed an Executive Order to that effect. That was to get Stupak and his caucus to vote for the bill, now we find that D.C. Planned Parenthood was awarded $375,000.00.

This is just a sampling of some of the more obvious lies that have emanated from the mouth of our President. Of course there were the lies that he stood in front of television cameras and told Americans; blaming the Benghazi attack on a “spontaneous demonstration caused by an a video spoofing Muhammad.” Everyone in the intelligence community knew in real time that the attack on the consulate was planned and coordinated. Yet the lie was re-told to the parents of those killed in the attack.

Not in defense of Obama but in way of explanation, he really didn’t have a choice but to lie about the Benghazi incident. He used the “. . . al Qaeda is on the run” remark to bolster his election potential. Either: we have no intelligence community, Obama doesn’t listen to our intelligence community, or he simply lied regarding al Qaeda. Once that lie was told, he had to either admit the truth and acknowledge the first lie or continue lying. He chose the latter and told one lie in attempt to cover the previous lie, and now he dances on the head of a pin in his efforts to define the current status of al Qaeda. One thing is for certain, when we have to close all our embassies in the Middle East and North Africa, because of terrorist threats, al Qaeda is certainly not on the run. Well I suppose running towards us could constitute being on the run in POTUS speak!

Politicians have always been known to shade the truth. When Bill Clinton peered into our living rooms and lied to us regarding getting sexual services from an intern, the floodgates of lies began in earnest and the expectation of character in politicians went out the window. Clinton paid no real price for his lie; he remained in office and made millions from books and speaking engagements. People are no longer shocked by the likes of Weiner, Spitzer, Filner, Foley, Craig, Packwood, etcetera because the bar has been set so low.

Some people get their undies in a wad when a president is called a liar. The presidency is a symbol; the individual who fills the position must establish his own integrity and honesty. “Beware of Obama, believe nothing that he says but watch what he does.” Charles Krauthammer
