Italian Students Boiling Over

Italian students from the University of Bologna yesterday, 27 May 2013, countering police obstruction of a public meeting which they had planned in Verdi Square, adjacent to the university. The students are chanting “assassins, assassins” and “shoot us, shoot us” as they charged riot police, ultimately driving the police from the square, where a public meeting about unemployment, university policies, and ‘general resistance to the government’ was conducted.

As this video was posted for a Spanish audience, the comments are quite telling as regards to the tensions in Spain – here are some of the comments translated to English:

In Spain have 7 or 8 times over police … for back, side, and even among students

so if you see is the face of all the demonstrators (ie zero hooded) and if I want to compare kicking a riot shield with throwing stones and burning containers ….

In Spain riot police, Civil Guard and the Army are a conglomerate of Falangist and riot Nazis.  If one can shoot a rubber ball [bullet] and make you blind, THEY DO [IT] WITH DESIRE.

In Spain with fewer eggs as you say, a woman lost an eye. Take the dogs we have in Spain by riot at that place and I’m sure things change.

In Greece and Spain, the riots and protests are much more violent, and are growing very large.  We are not being told about the near daily protesting in some parts of Europe because that would run counter to the ‘essential message’ that things are getting better.  Note the last comment, which I have place bold accent on – the commenter suggests that if typical Spanish protesters were present in Bologna, the outcome would have been much different – suggesting that they would have destroyed the police control of the area and caused a substantial “change” in the city.  I tend to agree, having seen the extent of the violence in recent riots – This brief example from Greece is instructive as to the sometimes murderous nature of both the rioters and the police:
