Our problems

Almost without exception the United States’ problems were caused by politicians who either sat on their thumbs doing nothing when action was needed or enacted some inane law in order to placate some minority group. Then these same folks seek reelection with a promise to straighten out the mess that they created—they never do.

In 1965 the United States changed its laws to encourage immigration. Mexico didn’t change America’s laws—congress did. Ever since, American businessmen have hired illegal immigrants in large numbers and exerted influence to maintain the influx. The American government under Obama encourages illegal immigration, and former administrations have looked the other way. The Democrats push for naturalization explicitly to get immigrants’ votes. States give illegals drivers’ licenses, health care, and schooling. “Sanctuary cities” openly defy laws as, again, does the federal government. Border patrols have been ordered, by Obama, virtually to stand down.

8 U.S. Code § 1324a: (1) makes it illegal for any American citizen to knowingly hire an illegal—that law is as universally ignored as your uncle Fester’s tall tales. Mexico is not responsible for the American government’s unwillingness to enforce federal statutes or our politicians pandering to the illegals.

There is no doubt that illegals are taking employment that Americans sorely need. These are not executive positions at Fortune 500 companies but they are jobs and with one in every five families having no family member employed obviously jobs should be the national priority.

Certainly Mexicans bring drugs into the United States but Americans sell the drugs on our streets, schools, and office buildings—Americans love their drugs. Mexico can’t stop the flow of drugs out of their country any more than we seemingly are able to stop their flow into our country. Actually America has the wherewithal to stop illegals and most of the influx of drugs – but politicians are willing to take the human trash along with the good people and ignore the drugs in order to troll for voters.

Mr. Trump has stated that he plans to require proof of citizenship for anyone to send money to Latin America—this makes sense and would help stop the flow of an estimated $24 billion out of the United States each year. Actually using the eVerify system would stop much of the hiring of illegals. It should be noted that illegal entry into the United States is a crime – all illegals are in fact criminals just as all shoplifters or tax cheats are criminals.

The proposed wall between the United States and Mexico would stop some illegals from entering the country as well as reduce the influx of drugs. Actually allowing the Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to do their jobs would stop a lot of the illegal traffic of humans and drugs. But that won’t happen until and unless Trump is elected. Mrs. Clinton is as committed to open borders and social programs for illegals as Obama so she would change nothing and probably make matters worse—if that is possible.

As indicated above hiring illegals is – well illegal. If ICE or U.S. Marshals were to arrest a few construction company owners, wealthy women who hire illegals as maids, and farmers the practice of hiring illegals would mostly stop. These folks and others know that the federal government only enforces the employment of illegals in a token manner so they continue to hire them because they work cheaper. Profit drives business decisions—stiff fines and jail makes folks consider other factors! But if we are waiting for our current government to enforce federal law we are in for a long disappointing wait!!

Some of Mr. Trump’s ideas are less than brilliant or workable but I believe he will hire people who are expert in their fields and lean on their input in his decision making. Considering Trump’s success as a businessman he has shown the ability to let knowledgeable people give him input and then makes a decision—that is the way any successful leader works.

Changes are needed – time will tell how much will actually change.
