Selective Outrage

Admittedly I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree, but after almost seventy-five years on this planet one tends to learn a few things. The problem is, try as I might, there are simply things about the human mind and its selective outrage I cannot comprehend.

There is a constant railing, screaming, threatening, and even a movement to demolish one of our government agencies because somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 children are or have been removed from their parents who disregarded United States law and entered our country illegally. While these same liberals, who I suppose are sincere but misguided, couldn’t give two hoots in hell about the roughly 4 million parents who are or have been removed from their children because they also violated state of federal laws and are imprisoned. You see, there is no moral imperative or outrage unless it is a political issue for an election.

We have a problem with farmers not being able to sell their products to other countries because of tariffs. I don’t see the problem. We give billions of dollars to countries whose citizens are supposedly starving; I would wager much of those taxpayer dollars end up in Switzerland. Rather than sending money, why don’t we send food products? It would help our farmers and get the food into the hands of people in need. While we are on the food issue, we spend billions of dollars every year on the SNAP (food stamp) program which is littered with fraud and abuse. I have personally seen people driving new Cadillacs buying lobster and crab legs using food stamps. Why not let our farmers sell their food products and let packers and canners provide the food goods to distribution centers and force people to use those facilities? I’m sure some would say that would be demeaning to those who need food assistance; if they need the food, what is demeaning? It is insulting to me as a taxpayer when EBT cards can be used in convenience stores, cruise ships, or to get cash.

When government employees leave federal service, why do they need to retain their security clearance? When I left the military my Top Secret clearance didn’t accompany me. In my view, when one turns in one’s identification card, door key, and leaves the federal building for the last time, their security clearance should be revoked. Unless the security clearance is used to get people to talk out of school, it has no viable function. If former government employees are to be hired by a private company which needs them to have a clearance, let that company pay the freight to have the clearance updated and reissued.

Why should we pay the freight for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations when the former depends on the United States to protect them if they are threatened by Russia and the latter is nothing more than a debating club for countries who hate us and Israel? American people are taxed to support both organizations and what do we get for our money? Does anyone logically think that small eastern European countries would send their soldiers to America if we were attacked? They don’t have anything to send in the first place.

Meddling in other countries’ elections is a violation of international law. We hear a lot of screaming about Russia meddling in out 2016 election but how about the U.S. Then Senator Obama traveled to Kenya and campaigned for far left presidential candidate Raila Odinga in Kenya’s 2006 elections. The Obama State Department gave $350,000 to a group called the “One Voice Movement (OVM), the money was used in an effort to undermine Netantahu’s reelection. The Obama State Department funneled millions of dollars to overthrow the conservative government in Macedonia. In 2011, Obama and Clinton interfered politically and militarily in Libya while Gaddafi was helping to identify Islamic extremists. The end result was he was killed and now there is a mess in Libya. The one thing I can be sure of is that you will never hear a word of any of this from the mainstream media or Democrats. Obama has been criticized for doing nothing to Putin because to his meddling; how could he when his hands are more soiled than Putin’s!

Trump may be a bull in a china shop but he is shaking things up. Lots of people hate what he says and does. These strong emotions are prompted by fear; fear of losing the status quo, fear of loss of power, and fear of consequences if America doesn’t continue to list and then sink into the abyss of history.

The laws separating the children from their criminal illegal immigrant parents who go to jail were passed under CLINTON and OBAMA. Not under Trump. The Democrats didn’t care about those children 2 years ago. Or 5 years ago. Or 10 years ago. Trump set about reuniting them, but Democrats can’t admit that. They created this lie for an election year issue.
Who separated those 10,000 “unaccompanied minors” who rode trains across Mexico to our borders?

There is too much common sense contained in what you have written here that makes it totally incompatible with the day to day functions of government. I volunteer at a faith based nondenominational food bank here in the mountains of North Carolina. There is no direct government funding and aside from 4 to 5 underpaid administrators it survives on donations and volunteers. We feed 1200-1400 local families a month in our county and during the school year 600-700 children through a back back program on weekends who otherwise might not have food to eat on the weekend. Your solution to food stamps and the farmers not being able to sell their products if implemented instead of food stamps and subsidies to farmers and the government took those funds and supplied products to existing food banks to be distributed in their communities fraud and waste would be a thing of the past and the people would be fed more efficiently. Good article…
