Invasion; an act of invading, especially: incursion of an army for conquest or plunder. 2: the incoming or spread of something usually hurtful. Whether most of the “caravan” members constitute an army is open to discussion; whether they will spread something harmful, intentionally or not, is intuitively obvious. Some want into our country to retake the southwest, some want to cause mischief, and some merely want a better life for their family. Those burning the U.S. flag while waving the flag of their homeland are suspicious at best!
The purpose of asylum is to escape political persecution. The international rule of asylum doesn’t grant the choice of what nation to petition; it requires the petitioner to seek asylum at the border of the first nation at which he or she arrives. Shopping for the best deal in an asylum country is not a part of the asylum program. All the folks in this “caravan” crossed at least one border before arriving at the Mexico/United States boundary.
Poverty and even starvation are not qualifying reasons for asylum approval. If it was, probably half of China, more than half of India, and most of North Korea would be eligible for asylum in the United States. As a matter of fact if poverty was a reason to establish approval for asylum, many of our inner city dwellers could be granted asylum in another country or relocated to someplace more desirable and safe in the U.S.
Illegal immigration is one of the most pressing problems facing our nation. The liberal/socialist members of our nation desire open borders and a general welfare state in order to make the poor perpetually dependent upon them for their support. Liberal/socialist has managed to make about half our nation dependent upon government in some fashion. Now they are hopeful that they can flood our country with poorly educated and unskilled people for American citizens to wholly support or subsidize.
The liberal/socialist element argues that illegals contribute more to our nation than they take. That is patently false! The taxpayers must: pay for the emergency medical treatment of illegals, educate their children (about $10,000.00 per child until completion of the 12th grade), provide free milk at school, free lunches, and pay for the birth of their children, and then immediately award the newborn citizenship. The liberal/socialist fallback argument is that the 14th Amendment provides for citizenship for the children of illegals; it doesn’t. The sticking point comes with the provision “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof…” Illegals are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States; if they were, they wouldn’t be here. They would have been deported due to illegal entry.
The 14th Amendment was designed to provide citizenship to Negroes and former slaves who were born in or living in the United States at the time of emancipation. U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark, 1898, defines the criteria for automatic citizenship. Obviously few politicians and even fewer ordinary citizens have read the ruling. It is sufficient to say that the ruling clearly defines those who are citizens at birth. Children born to those in the U.S. illegally aren’t eligible for immediate citizenship.
Most of the people who advocate for open borders are the ones least likely to be affected by the influx of illegals. People who live in gated communities or behind walled estates are unaffected by the taking of legitimate jobs heretofore filled by American citizens. There is no massive influx of illegal doctors, engineers, or scientists from south of our border. The preponderance of illegals are poorly educated, unskilled, will fill menial jobs, and require some form of government assistance.
Hopefully President Trump will stick to his guns and keep this current crop of illegals out of the country. In all likelihood, this is the make or break moment in our nation’s history. If Trump caves in to liberal and media pressure, the U.S. will be without a border and cease to be a self-determining nation.
Ms. Pelosi has a plan in mind which would deport senior citizens in order to save on the massive Medicare expense. Her logic is that seniors would be easier to catch and many wouldn’t remember how to get back home once evicted from the U.S. It’s a joke folks. I’ll save her a seat on the first flight out! That’s not a joke!
