Are We Going to Audit the Federal Reserve?

Is anyone wondering what the Republican House of Representatives has accomplished in two months? I mean tangible, earth shattering reform to stop (not slow) our country’s decline which is reported to be the number one election issue.

I remember receiving an email two years ago from a Louisiana Tea Party representative asking for our help to get the “Audit the Fed” legislation to the floor of the House of Representatives. It seems that our own Brad Miller was holding back this legislation in committee.

So where is the “Audit the Fed” legislation in the current Congress? It has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Ron Paul (H.R. 459) and in the Senate by Rand Paul (S 202).

H.R. 459

To require a full audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks by the Comptroller General of the United States before the end of 2012, and for other purposes.

S 202

To require a full audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal reserve banks by the Comptroller General of the United States before the end of 2012, and for other purposes.

H.R. 459 currently has 97 co-sponsors including Sue Myrick and Walter Jones from North Carolina. Every other senator and representative from North Carolina is “missing in action”.  I have included contact information if you want to represent your views on this issue.

I contacted Congresswoman Renee Ellmers office concerning HR459 Audit the Fed back on January 27, 2011. I was asked to send a fax concerning the legislation so that it could be handed off to the proper legislative assistant. I successfully sent the fax on January 28, 2011, and I called to confirm receipt of the fax. I also called Senator Richard Burr’s office about becoming a co-sponsor of S202. Has Representative Ellmers or Senator Burr joined to co-sponsor the respective bills? No.
