As Venezuela burns, socialism’s paying big for its corrupt rulers

Venezuela’s descent into socialist hell continues apace — even as top officials live high off the hog.

“There’s very little food on the shelves, almost no medicine, and electricity is constantly interrupted around the country,” says Vanessa Neumann, a native Venezuelan now living in New York, adding, “They’re trying to keep the lights on in Caracas, because once that’s off, they’re in real trouble.”

Because of rampant inflation, the few basic commodities that are still available are unaffordable even for those who until recently were relatively well-off. Gangs run wild in crime-ridden streets. Increasingly violent pro- and anti-government rioters clash daily.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How did this happen? The same way it is happening in our country. Politicians tell people that they deserve entitlements and “rights”. For free. The evil rich are responsible and must “pay” for their past and present transgressions. They use people to destroy the country using a pretense of a Socialistic utopia.
The success of Bernie Sanders with younger voters is the current example. The success of Obama is the past example with its consequences: recession, falling wages, rising unemployment, corruption and tyranny. Is Venezuela collapsing into another revolution or are they a test case for a larger goal? Does it matter? Does the future of your children matter?
If only Venezuela enjoyed the level of fraud the U.S. and much of the rest of the first world enjoys when it comes to fiat currency.
Last week I reported here that Venezula’s Maduro had imposed martial law. When he declared it, the Congress denied his attempt and thus far that extreme has been avoided on a nationwide scale as Congress turned back his mandate. Nevertheless the riots and looting continue to escalate.
Maduro still insists this poverty is a softening measure by the US to enable an attack. He justifies his claim with reports that US spyplanes are entering Venezulean airspace.
The US denies any overflights.
On Tuesday, massive marches were launched to demand the removal of Maduro from power. Still he resists.
The reports you have been reading here are disturbing, but only a harbinger of things to come. Escalation of dissent and resistance is eminent, and the carnage is eventually going to spill out of the cities and into the countryside.
The Venezuelan people have had their fill of socialist and Marxist ideology. They long for the better times they were tricked into surrendering in the name of equality and security.
Recognize that we are currently on the same path they traveled and now reject. We are about five years behind the curve of implementation, and gaining velocity. America better wake up and do so fast!
Venezuelans surrendered their guns, or this struggle would already be over. Take note of that. It will likely be our next hurdle to overcome.
Hugo Chavez and Bernie Sanders have read the same playbook. Not completely dissimilar to Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”. End game is the same.
Interesting that Mike brings Alinsky into the discussion. Obama’s friend and mentor Bill Ayers tutored the Chavistas in the finer arts of Alinskyism. Read it in his own words here:
While on this openly Marxist propaganda site, study what Ayers and his comerades are promoting, how they do it, and to whose children. Any nation of sheep following blindly are slowly being led to the slaughter.
Enquirer is correct -- as bad as the widely distributed reports are, they are only the tip of the iceberg. It is my understanding that in many rural areas the electric power has gone out for days at a time, and that as much as half the country had no electric power, as of this weekend.
Outside Caracas and its suburbs, armed gangs, which likely include soldiers and/or police, have been raiding farms and ranches, stealing produce and livestock in a wholesale fashion. The presumption being that they are bringing these stolen provisions back to their barracks to feed themselves and their families.
No, this didn’t come from any news agency -- I heard it directly from a ham radio operator living near San Juan de Los Morros, who said he works at the University there. He also stated that the university students have been rioting and looting for food intermittently for weeks, and that all university classes and programs were indefinitely suspended two weekends ago, after a major riot, in which a number of the university staff were threatened by a mass of students, to the effect of, “feed us or we will kill you all”.
I doubt he will be on the air much longer, as he stated that he was planning to take his family to his brothers farm for their safety. Aparently, there is a sizable prision nearby, and many are afraid that the guards may stop coming to work as things get worse…
We are witnessing the total collapse of a society, in real time. Pay close attention, as the same problems are already brewing in certain areas of the US.
There is a critical moment when a very slow build-up suddenly breaks through the bounds of normalcy; and once those bounds are breached, violent changes come very rapidly.
LT, your information is correct. I get daily updates directly from Caracas and surrounding areas from family on the ground there.
This tragedy has been underway for many months and shows no sign of abating. Honest, caring people are in fear for their lives as the criminal elements openly run roughshod over their liberties and destroy their property. Many have and will die as this nation struggles to survive in whatever form eventually emerges.
There was a time when world powers intervened in such extreme circumstances. Currently the pals of Chavistas in Russia, China, and Cuba appear to be keeping a safe distance and measuring their response. Let us hope that trend continues.
In spite of the fact that we have an impotent Commander-in-Chief, the US would surely be drawn into a world conflict should either of the three principals act. Conversely, the US likewise has it’s diplomatic hands tied because of the aforementioned alliances.
