“It is interesting to hear certain kinds of people insist that the citizen cannot fight the government. This would have been news to the men of Lexington and Concord, as well as the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. The citizen most certainly can fight the government, and usually wins when he tries. Organized national armies are useful primarily for fighting against other organized national armies. When they try to fight against the people, they find themselves at a very serious disadvantage. If you will just look around at the state of the world today, you will see that the guerillero has the upper hand. Irregulars usually defeat regulars, providing they have the will. Such fighting is horrible to contemplate, but will continue to dominate brute strength.” – Col. Jeff Cooper
When one discusses the real reason for the Second Amendment – the right of citizens to defend themselves against a potentially tyrannical government – inevitably someone points out the stark difference in firepower between a guerilla uprising in the United States and the United States government itself.
For the purposes of this article, consider what a domestic American terrorist or freedom fighter (after all, the label is in the eye of the beholder) organization based on the militia movementwould look like in open revolt against the United States government. In the spirit of levity, we’ll call them the “Hillbilly Viet Cong.” They would most likely find their largest numbers in Appalachia, but don’t discount their power in the American Redoubt, or the more sparsely populated areas of the American Southwest, including rural Texas.
Here we have tens of thousands of Americans armed to the teeth with combat experience, deep family ties to both the police and the military, extensive knowledge of the local geography, and, in many cases, survivalist training. Even where they are not trained, militant and active, they enjoy broad support among those who own a lot of guns and grow a lot of food.
Could the Hillbilly Viet Cong take down the USG? Maybe, maybe not. But it’s difficult to imagine that the USG could take them down.
Indeed, even with a number of nasty little toys on the side of the federal government, we live in an age of a technologically levelled playing field. This is true even when it comes to instruments of warfare. While the USG has nuclear weapons, it’s worth remembering that a pound of C4 strapped to a cheap and readily available commercial-grade drone is going to break a lot of dishes.
This sort of guerilla insurgency has a name: It’s called fourth-generational warfare (4GW), and you might be surprised to learn that you already live in this world.
One point that I don’t see emphasized is that Freefor doesn’t need to “win” in order to win. They are not trying to conquer Opfor. Freefor’s aim would be to have Opfor quit fighting them and let them go their own way, so anything less than a crushing defeat for Freefor is a win.
On the other hand, Opfor has to out-and-out vanquish Freefor.
This is a significant advantage for Freefor (though it didn’t work out so well for the Confederacy, however).
You have NO IDEA of how many “Hillbilly Viet Cong” are out there, quietly prepping for what’s coming. NONE!
And, to be truthful, neither do they. And they don’t want to know, either.
Well, we don’t “prep” in these parts, self-reliance is just the way we live. Read any of the “Foxfire” or “Cloudburst” series from the 1960’s and 1970’s and you’ll see for yourself.
As for some (more recent) insight into the culture:
“Hillbilly Elegy” by J.D. Vance; “Deer Hunting With Jesus” by Joe Bageant; “Militant Normals” by Kurt Schlichter
Seems a lot of these writers only talk about Hillbilly VC fighting it out with the military. Why would we want to do that? Better to avoid those guys and approach another way. Starve the beast. The fedgov cannot function without commerce. If wealth (work) is not being created, they cannot pay their bills. If they cannot get food to your table, who will be going to work? Power plants, bridges, river locks, truck parks are all fair game. How is Safeway going to deliver food without trucks? And the bridge on the interstate is burned out? So don’t fight the military, that is a losing fight. Fight the gov. worker bees. No IRS workers going to work? Stuff stops.
Agree with the overall gist of economic sanctions and until such time as the “free stuff” fallacy is exposed for the fraud that it is, little will change for the better.
But I believe you’re off the mark vis-a-vis the IRS -- the bulk of the .gov functions (at all level, global to local) are financed by debt underwritten by a cartel of private banksters called the Federal Reserve, not tax revenue. The IRS and your local taxation agencies are there more for control of the populace rather than for revenue. And until that seemingly bottomless source of finance is shut down, the clownworld circus will go on ad nauseum.
However….. the banking cartel known as the federal reserve can print all they want, but if it takes 11 one trillion dollar notes to buy a MickieD hamburger, that non-money is not wanted by anyone (see Zimbabwe). Again, it is commerce (ie Main Street) that produces the wealth of the country, not fedres notes (Wall Street). If commerce stops producing wealth, the fedres notes are worthless. What do the bankers buy with that borrowed money? Main Street. If the collection stops, they must create “money” out of the printing press. Now they are doing that right now, but taxes give it a thin veneer of deniability. That will soon come to a screeching halt if the economy implodes. If commerce stops, who is going to feed the great un-washed masses in fly over country? The scary thing at that point is what are their options to retain power? Eliminating about 75-80% of the masses. Would they do that? Answer is yes they are sociopaths. How they would go about that is a question for another time. Thanks for the reply. This is interesting in a Chinese “interesting times” kind of way.
