Electric tools are very important! What is just as important, is having power for them. While more expensive, battery powered tools can be recharged off of most any solar PV array with a inverter. This will give you the use of your tools till the battery wears out. A more robust PV system with a inverter of a few thousand watts can run most 120V tools and of course lights, communications and refrigeration, all essential!

For those of us on a fixed income with energy prices increasing world wide, many of us won’t be able to keep the lights on, unless we start switching to solar.
I realize wind, solar and electric cars are not really energy efficent, but wind and solar can provide the individual with reliable power, with the grid down or too expencive!

Of course anything you will need tomorrow, that you can purchase today will be cheaper and more likely to be available! Stock up now!

Lawn Mower, love you name. However, solar is not the way to go. One of the aspects of geoengineering is dimming the rays of the sun. This is what got Dane Wiggington on his incredible journey to uncover the reasons for the spraying of our skies. For more info, geoengineeringwatch.org.

Not to mention what i believe as the True threat and or promise for a world that has turned its back on God. And is a part of His very creation. man’s looming threat of nuclear war does not hold a candle to His power.

Stan, thanks, the name is an old CB handle, my first name is Lon.

Back to solar, I started using it forty years ago, as I live in a very remote area, with unreliable, power. I am aware of global dimming!
Yesterday was very cloudy and I was still getting about 30% of my normal power, enough for lights, TV, refrigeration, but not the washer!
This is with a 2500W peak system!

Solar is not going to solve the nations energy problems, nor is it useful in cloudy areas; how ever it has worked well for me as a back for the grid and as a stand alone power source!

If you live within 40° of the equator, and subsidized solar equipment is cheap enough, it can be a good option. To be useful off grid, you will need batteries, and that’s the weak point. Batteries with a long life being deep cycled every night are expensive and difficul to obtain. Lead/Acid batteries are cheap and common, but will not last but 5yrs or so in constant use, and even in standby (kept charged, never discharged) they only last 22yrs or so. If you can get them *dry* (acid packaged separately), they should last “forever” (the shelf life of the acid).

Most people today seem to lean toward LiFePo (Lithium Iron Phosphate) which comes with computer controlled charging circuitry, and is not all that cheap.

Batteries are the primary problem to solve for solar.

Yes Fido, batteries are the problem for solar! As I started out forty years ago with solar, we only had deep cycle lead acid available. I started expanding my system about five years ago, using 6V golf cart batteries, so far no failures!
I do try to keep the discharge rate below 20%, supplementing with a line charger when necessary, keeping acid levels up and being careful not to over charge! Batteries are the biggest problem to be sure, but workable! I simply don’t have the money for the Lithium ion, so lead acid it is, but it works!

Solar panels need cleaning from time to time and some times need snow removal, it is handy to have them accessible with ground arrays!
No energy system is free and all require money and or maintenenc, such is life, there is no such thing as a free lunch!

All in all the system works well for us and should out last me!

Finally we are at war with Russia, in fact! When they get tired of our attacks, they will likely attack in turn, an EMP attack will solve many of their problems as our grid fails! I really like electric lights, refegeration, running water and the wife likes washing machines!
