While It is important to have a back up generator, fuel is the issue! I have an old Kohler 4KW 1800rpm generator. With previous power outages, running it mostly during the day, it used about five gallons of gas, I store about fifty gallons for the homestead. This gas must be treated and cycled yearly so I store about a years supply for the homestead.

Since the last power outage I have increased the solar pv from 300w to 3.5 KW allowing us to run several refrigerators and freezers, along with lighting and TV.
We should do well during the next power failure. Our weak area is batteries with only 4000 Ah, I will probably need another 1000 ah.
This system was assembled over the course of five years, spending a thousand or so per year. It was simple and easy accept carrying the batteries! I also have a worthless 400w wind generator.
Wiring for the panel’s needs to be 5 -- 10 times greater than the current to reduce line losses.
Tempus fugit, as energy cost increase!

Whistleblower stated that the CIA has been destroying the food plants around the country.
Expect years from now to hear the same on the destruction of the substations.

Some of these power substation attacks will be “copycat” incidents. People read about them and think they are good ideas. The grid in Amerca is NOT designed with terrorists in mind. Hardening it would take decades and most billions.
