Mormon Arizona rancher LaVoy Finicum was killed on the night of January 26 as the militia standoff near Burns, Oregon, appeared to come to an end. Famously, Finicum, 54, had told the media on January 6 that he would choose death over surrender in the case. His death was confirmed by Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore. She wrote on Twitter:

Let’s see if the assemblywoman’s account is confirmed. What we know at this time is that LaVoy Finicum is dead.

It’s an unfortunate ending, or beginning of the ending. Six have been arrested and one was shot. This occurred during a traffic stop. The surviving armed occupiers will wind up in prison and they will have plenty of time to think. Of course, right wing spin doctors will say whatever suits their agenda, but the fact is, these folks were committing felonies, were armed, were a potential danger to the local community, and this is the result of their outrageously arrogant actions.

Well gk, your wish to see them sentenced has been performed and carried out. Hope you are at ease now.

Guess citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights is a bit too much for government to handle, right?

Despots love guys like you gk, they always have and they always will appreciate the cooperation and support.

They haven’t been sentenced yet. These guys were not part of a “well regulated Militia.” I don’t support MANY of the things government does, meaning I don’t support a lot of things done by people at the federal, state and local levels OR their elected governing bodies. You’re wrong on every count! That doesn’t surprise me one bit. I’m glad this is ending because it’s costing Oregon taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars and has been very threatening to the locals. These so-called “patriots” are arrogant, anti-democratic, felons and they will have a lot of time to think about their guns and their personal problems.

gk, they never claimed to be well regulated militia. Their claim was, they were your fellow American citizens, who were peacefully protesting government over reach regarding land use and ownership in the western U.S., and a serious breach and judicial error in regards to sentencing two other American citizens. The locals were not fearful of them, and many were fearful for them. Yes, they had their detractors -- but then, so do you.
In whatever case or conduct, no one here had to die. But, someone did. And, when the uranium is being mined in Harney county, and taken to Russia; and the Clinton machine cashes the check… well, each day that passes is another day closer to the knee on your chest and the knife at your throat and even then you won’t understand… These men, for the most part -- despite their imperfections and mistakes, simply saw the knee and knife sooner than you did, and decided to say “no”; instead of simply requesting they use lubricant -- which is your only request, right?

Regardless of your hollow thoughts, GK, this is a major event which will have far-reaching consequences. The FBI (and BLM, et al.) just murdered an unarmed man, in the midst of a widely watched protest against criminal over-reach by Fed.Gov.

In many circles tonight, the phrase “no more free Wacos” is being repeated with grave determination. Some of those men are packing out for the trip to Oregon… while others are preparing operational plans for their own AOs.

While I’m not declaring this to be a full-on causus belli, many are increasing their defensive posture in response to this ratcheting of the conflict between citizens and various Fed.Gov agencies. And why shouldn’t they? The FBI, with the assistance of the Oregon State Patrol, set up an ambush, with over 50 heavily armed officers deployed to arrest 8 men who were on their way to a community meeting.

Those men were not, and did not claim to be a ‘militia’. They were ranchers, with a list of legitimate grievances against the BLM, and they were en route to a public meeting to discuss the widespread abuses which BLM has committed against many ranchers in that area.

How is it that state and federal authorities gave incredible leeway to the “Occupy Wall Street” groups around the country, and yet these ranchers are ambushed and gunned down in cold blood for committing essentially the same acts of civil disobedience?

It couldn’t possibly be politics that made the difference, could it? Because the FBI is not the East German Stasi, sent out to “disappear” political dissidents in the dark of night, right?

Because this is America, and we still have the protection of the First Amendment to our Constitution, which guarantees every citizen the right to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances… RIGHT?

And along side it, we have the Second Amendment, which guarantees every citizen the right to keep and bear arms, RIGHT?

And nowhere in the Bill of Rights does it say that our rights can only be exercised one at a time, does it? So then any argument which claims that, “because they were armed it was not a peaceful protest” is specious and void upon its face, RIGHT?

Perhaps it’s my age catching up with me, and I’m just getting a bit confused, but I keep getting the feeling that I’ve awoken from a dream, and found myself living in the former USSR, circa 1960, where Khruschev and the Duma issue “arrest warrants” for political dissidents with appalling regularity, which are executed without even a shred of due process, to protect even the most harmless of people who ask a “difficult question” here and there…

WE HAVE BEEN WARNED
. THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
. THERE IS NO GOING BACKWARDS
. …and things are about to get very ugly.

My bad — They are not yet felons. But this event changes nothing other than the fact that more people in the U.S. now understand that the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association has a good working relationship with the BLM stewards of our land, there are archaeological resources predating European settlement in the area the protection of which is covered by federal and state laws, there are a lot of birds at Malheur during migrations, there are a lot of right wing wackos in the U.S. who don’t understand our system and attempt to use force to get their way like big babies, Harney County residents are conservative but in a good way, and law enforcement can be effective (this was no Ruby Ridge).

gk, George Mason (you know one of the people that help found America) defined the Militia:

“I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.”

So he was part of the legal Militia.

They are there to retrieve stolen property. The feds stole it, plain and simple. They have no legal authority to own a the property since it is not is not a fort, magazine, arsenal or a dock-yard.

“To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;”

So why are you here? You are a Constitutionally ignorant person. You really dislike the principles on which this country was founded and hate the idea of actual liberty. You sit here and support a crime and see nothing wrong with it.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Not that it will make a difference to some people, but my point was and is they held court ‘on the street.’ The man was tried, sentenced, and executed, period.

Comply or die, yet some still refuse see the chains of tyranny.
