Burr votes guilty in Trump impeachment trial

Day Traitor: Sunday's Comic | Arizona Daily Independent

North Carolina Republican Richard Burr voted to convict President Donald Trump on his lone impeachment charge Saturday, a surprising vote for the retiring senator.

“As I said on January 6th, the President bears responsibility for these tragic events. The evidence is compelling that President Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection against a coequal branch of government and that the charge rises to the level of high Crimes and Misdemeanors. Therefore, I have voted to convict,” Burr said in a statement. “I do not make this decision lightly, but I believe it is necessary.

“By what he did and by what he did not do, President Trump violated his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

The acquittal of President Trump today was expected. What was unexpected: every single Democrat voting against the President. The addition of seven Republican senators was surprising as well as McConnell’s disgraceful speech after the acquittal:

It feels like the end of the Senate trial was the end of the closing act of a play. The country’s fate is sealed by the actions of these Communist traitors. Every member of the federal government is now either a traitor or a collaborator.

I doubt anyone feels that this coup is done and settled history. When the majority of the country does not recognize the selected “president”, insurrection restoration is inevitable.

I remember when Burr first was elected to Congress; how impressed I was with him. He was one of the ‘good guys’ going to ‘fix’ things. Then he got there. No one seems to be able to retain their integrity and virtue once they enter the swamp. Burr is no exception. After listening to the arguments in the farce of an impeachment trial, the vote signaled who, at least on the surface, was willing to abide by their oaths of office and who would not. Those voting to convict are clearly traitors to the Constitution which they swore to protect and defend. They deserve a traitors infamy and punishment. Time will tell if they receive the later, the former is now etched in stone.
