Duh…. Like I said, stash some cash. If you start flashing silver or gold you make yourself a target. If precious metals is all you got, try to trade it for cash in small amounts first. If you’re gonna flash silver and gold you better have a way to protect it. As far as electronic money goes, anything digital is worthless when the power goes out. If we ever go to a central bank digital currency, it’s all over. Now you understand why.

Whuuuuh? Crypto doesn’t work when the grid is down? Who saw that coming?

Just got an email from a local outfit I frequent and they say they now have electricity, but their card terminal is still down. The company that provides the service for the terminal is telling them it will be October 15th before they will have it working. Meanwhile. it is cash or check only.

My PM strategy:
“Junk” 90 percent silver coins for everyday trading. “I’ll give you 10 cents silver for that loaf of bread and a dozen eggs.”

I would not be using my PMs for purchases during a localized SHTF, like a natural disaster instead of cash and coins, because things will get back to normal soon enough.

24c gold jewelry as a store of wealth for special trades, or through to the other side of SHTF when you can sell it off to reestablish your cash portfolio.

Buy other, cheaper jewelry at pawn shops to use for bribes. Most thugs have no idea the difference between 14c, 18c, or 24c. “This was my grandmother’s wedding ring, could you hold onto it for me and I’ll come back with some cash? I really want it back!”

24c gold chain can be sold off for inflated cash by the inch. Spend the cash all at once. It’ll be worthless by the end of the day in a hyperinflation economy. (Learned this from FerFal’s book, “Surviving the Economic Collapse in Argentina”.

Cash money still has value, but don’t expect it to have any value outside of firestarter when there is a nationwide economic collapse. A regional collapse, it’s still useful.

Crypto is useful for some situations -- like moving large sums of money from one place to another without attracting attention. You can put a million dollars on a flash drive in your pocket. But, if the grid is down forever? Forget about it.

Do NOT! DO NOT! Consider anything that can come back at you at a high rate of speed as trading material in SHTF unless you completely and utterly trust the person you are trading it to. But even then, do you know and trust their acquaintances?

Well who would have thought that 🙂 The old ways are the best ways as the old saying says “Cash talks and the rest walks” Silver and Gold also works very well 🙂
