Pop singer Clay Aiken is assembling a political team for a run at the Democratic nomination in the 2nd Congressional District, sources told WRAL News on Thursday.
Aiken, a Raleigh native, is expected to make an official announcement next month, sources said.
…
Aiken was the runner-up on “American Idol” in 2003 and later put out six albums and appeared on Broadway and on reality television. His most noted foray into the political arena came two years ago when he spoke out against North Carolina’s constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage.
Clay Aiken and Voter Fraud
It is too easy to cheat in North Carolina Elections – just ask Clay Aiken.
In North Carolina, voters are required to sign an Authorization to Vote form before they are handed a ballot – the wording goes something like this:
I hereby certify that the address listed on the label is where I currently live or as corrected below. I understand that if I have moved from this address 30 or more days ago, it is a violation of North Carolina law to claim my old address as my voting address…
Clay’s nasty comments about the newest Wake County Board of Education members led some people to do some research and they ultimately found that in order to vote in the last couple of elections Clay Aiken was falsely stating that he lived in Wake County instead of the house he built (and lives in) in Chatham County. He voted in Wake County in several of the past elections, including the 2008 General Election and this year’s municipal election.
How many more “Clay Aikens” are out there lying about where they live or even who they are. Until North Carolina requires valid ID to vote – we will never know.
Clay Aiken withdraws Wake voter registration
Raleigh native and former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken has withdrawn his voter registration in Wake County, following a challenge to whether the singer is eligible to vote there.
Aiken sent a letter to the Wake County Board of Elections, which scheduled a meeting Wednesday to examine a complaint from Wake Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope.
Pope filed the complaint last month, after Aiken called candidates for the county school board “selfish idiots.” He has said the challenge isn’t about Aiken’s words but making sure people are lawfully registered.
