The drug cartels are using radios to report the movements of Mexican police and military. It’s a very functional Early Warnings & Indicators (EWI) system they have set up, not unlike what Sparks31 and I have been talking about with Communications Intelligence (COMINT) collection. And the Mexican Army is listening in to the cartel traffic, conducting some COMINT of their own.

So if you’re going to be an intelligence collector, here are two lessons learned right off the bat: 1) start doing it now, and 2) better have some skilled analysts to feed information to so they can put something meaningful together.
