Cooper Nuclear Station to Begin Flooding Preparations

A flood warning has been issued by the government that will impact the Cooper Nuclear Station. As shown below in the alert, at  9:15 AM on July 6th, the water level was 41.1 feet. Cooper Nuclear Power Station begins flooding preparations at 40.5 feet. It seems strange that the government is issuing this alert at this level when the station declared a “notification of unusual event” on Sunday at a water level of 42.5 feet.

Someone in Congress is finally giving this situation and the Army Corps of Engineers the attention it should have received three weeks ago.

Sen. Ben Nelson Continues Pushing Army Corps of Engineers On Flood Control Policy

Pushed for more answers regarding flood fears and Nebraska’s two nuclear power plants, the Army Corps of Engineers stands by its performance but also promises a “full-scale” review of its actions.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ben Nelson wants the corps to go even further. In a statement issued Tuesday, Nelson said the corps must put safety at the Cooper Nuclear Station and Fort Calhoun ”at the forefront of how it manages the Missouri River.”

Nelson also questions the corps’ ability to keep the public appropriately informed. In any case, he says it must do a better job.
