best estimate is that if the grid goes down, 90% of the population will not survive the first year.
if(China) takes out the grid, how soon would they put troops into the country??
probably never. if there is no electricity for us there is no electricity for them. if there is no infrastructure for us, there is no infrastructure for them. the supply logistics of having to supply EVERYTHING needed for an invasion would make the WW2 invasion of europe look easy.
it would make more sense to bring farmers and ranchers and homesteaders, and a few engeneers, and set up a colony with the idea of starting over from scratch. that’s what we would be doing any way, so a colony loyal to (China) would be a simpler way of taking over.

Even modern cars use their shell as a faraday cage, that’s why the antenna is placed outside of the car.
Tests were done on modern cars with simulated EMPs and found 100% of the cars when off started up. While running the car worst case will stall and some electronics like blinkers could act up, but the car will still start back up and drive.

It is good that most cars might run, but how do you get gas with no grid power. Yes small generators will work for a time, to pump gas, but what about petroleum processing plants?

He posted a EMP device specifically for cars, I was just commenting on the studies conducted.
I wasn’t talking about other issues like pumps, etc.

Having worked in the power generation/distribution field I can
tell you a virus makes more sense since almost everything
is automated in the industry now.
Think Stuxnet.
One hour after the power goes out, 60% of this countries
population become animals and within 6 months, at least half
are dead and buried.
For a potential occupying force it makes much more sense
to keep as much as the operating infrastructure in place to help
facilitate lets say mining this countries natural resources.
The world knows that this country is a powder keg. Strike the
match and we’ll unfortunately finish off ourselves.

The bottom line is, we need reliable backup power! As most systems will fail, having food, water, some where to grow more food and safe shelter would help!
