Here is my response:
Warning Against Idleness
2 Thessalonians 3:6-10
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
There is no word in Hebrew for retirement. A man is supposed to work as long as he is physically able to work. The Bible is very clear that it is our duty to render assistance to widows and orphans:
James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
It is also our duty to fight against evil. So be careful when you ask what would Jesus do. Only people who do not know what Jesus would do, would ask this question.
David DeGerolamo
Before the “state” taxed us to death, most poor people got their assistance from either churches or charities. And it worked pretty well. When government began confiscating more and more of people’s wealth, people stopped contributing as much to charities and churches because there’s a limit to how much anyone is willing to give.
Real Christians still tithe. The government is transferring faith in the Lord to dependence on the state. Anyone supporting this behavior is NOT a Christian.
David -- Your response is phenomenal . . . So many on the left wrongly accuse Christian conservatives of being “rich, greedy, hoarders”. The vast majority of Christians tithe faithfully to their church, facilitating the organization of massive humanitarian missions in American cities and around the globe. In addition to tithing, again, the majority of Christians are also personally charitable . . . We give to organizations tasked with finding cures for Cancer, Lupus, MS, Cystic Fibrosis, Heart Disease, ALS and Alzheimers. We give our time and money to our local communities for special fundraisers, to support our youth, to feed our homeless, to care for the sick, and to comfort those in despair and grief. We also give our time and money to national and international disaster relief funds. Charity is not stealing from one group of individuals for the benefit of another. Charity cannot be forced by another. Charity is not the government, under threat of fines or imprisonment, forcing me to give up what I have sacrificed and worked hard to earn for the benefit of my own family. And most importantly Charity is 100% voluntary.
As a side note, Jimmy Carter was the SECOND WORST PRESIDENT in the history of the United States of America!
