How does it feel to wake up and not have access to your money sitting in the bank? I can tell you first hand. A majority of our cash reserves have been deposited in a credit union based out of Asheville. We lived in the Hickory area but chose a credit union to do most of our business with feeling that a localized credit union was safer than one of the big banks. Then along comes Helene and the headquarters for that credit union like a lot of Asheville is nonoperational to say the least.
There was no access to your accounts on line and all branches outside of the Asheville area were basically nonoperational. Those branches did open but only their drive thru windows probably to protect employees form desperate clients. They could provide very little information at the branches and you could not make contact online or by phone. As of today they have managed to get their online services up and running. The branches have a $200.00 per day maximum withdrawl limit.
We have deposits with a secondary bank as well as on hand cash reserves, but I feel for those who have all their assets tied up with that credit union. I am sure that they will resolve these issues over time, but it has given us a glimpse into what it could look like if it happens to all banks nation wide. Put as much as you can into tangible assets such as gold and silver. If nothing else rely on the basics of beans, band aids and bullets.
We already did. Years ago.
