GRNC Alert 2-19-12: Parks Carry – Greensboro

Greensboro Meeting Tuesday, Feb. 21
Here we go again. Naturally, it is to be expected that the city council of Greensboro would be reluctant to respect the rights bestowed upon you by your creator and now recognized by state law as prescribed in HB 650 which passed into law after being shepherded through the process by GRNC. You spoke, the General Assembly listened. Now it is time to have the same conversation with the city council of one of our state’s largest cities.Like some others, Greensboro is being rather creative in their reading of a clearly laid out law. The ordinance they will be considering Tuesday night takes the following interesting liberties with the new law:

  1. It bans whole parks which *contain* recreational facilities;
  2. Tries to say the legislature “changed” the word “parks” to “recreational facilities;” and
  3. It fails to specifically name the “recreational facilities” where guns are banned.

If we were too polite with the above, let us be clearer. These are the ways they will be BREAKING THE LAW if allowed to go forward with this plan. Now in the creative logic they are applying in reaching these conclusions, they may not even be aware that they will be breaking the law. It is up to you to make them aware of this.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED:

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE
Dear Council Members:I urge you to respect and OBEY the new law allowing honest and law abiding citizens the right to self protection within parks. It is clear in where you MUST allow Concealed Carry holders the right of self protection. Concealed carry holders have repeatedly proven to be sane, sober and law abiding over the last 16 years that North Carolina’s CCW ordinance has been in force. Any concerns you have in regards to concealed carry in parks are totally unfounded. Not only have the “wild west” scenarios feared by those unwisely opposing the concealed carry law not materialized, but in fact everywhere this has been tried, crime has gone down. It is time to allow the right of self protection in parks as well.Any move to limit my rights will factor into any spending decisions I may make in regards to your town.

Respect my right to self protection in what are often dangerous locations. I will be monitoring your actions via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,
A Gun-Owning NC Voter
