GSK cutting hundreds of jobs in Research Triangle Park, NC

GlaxoSmithKline is laying off hundreds of workers involved in research and development at its campus in Research Triangle Park.

Two sources say the total is around 900 although some may be offered jobs elsewhere in the company.

GSK employs some 4,500 people in RTP and 5,000 across the Triangle,

GSK has said that a restructuring was coming as part of a plan involving some $1.5 billion in cuts disclosed in October by Chief Executive Officer Andrew Witty.

The news is “not good, pretty much closing R&D at RTP,” an employee told WRAL.

“[I] have job for a few months. then the powers that be will decide Feb if I’m incumbent or redundant.

Obviously part of the ongoing “economic recovery”…….
