president Obama is using the tragic death of a teenager in Chicago as a justification to pass gun control legislation “to end this senseless violence”. I understand the reasons behind gun control: Nazi Germany, Cambodian Killing Fields and Mao’s China are all examples of the consequences of an unarmed populace. I fail to understand how a suspected gang member in Chicago with an “illegal” handgun who has killed an innocent bystander will be rectified in the future by enacting gun control measures.
From the Chicago Tribune:
Hadiya was killed Jan. 29 at Harsh Park, in the 4400 block of South Oakenwald Avenue, not far from the Obama family home. Although Hadiya and the friends that were with her had no gang ties, a gunman fired into the park in what police said was a gang-connected shooting causing her death to become a symbol of Chicago’s gun violence.
In the past when we had the rule of law that is the foundation of a republic, the police and political figures would have been vowing to find the perpetrators and dispense justice. Our president uses this as another example of the Democrat Party to use a funeral service to further a political agenda. When did we become a country where vain and aspiring children hold our highest offices and use tragedies to enslave us? The better question is why do we allow this to continue?
If anyone can offer a convincing argument explaining how gun control legislation would have prevented this senseless death, I will support it and the repeal of the 2nd amendment. What is the temperature in Hell today?
I pray for the soul of Hadiya and am comforted by her mother’s words that she is in heaven.

Obama to slain teen’s family: We will work ‘to end this senseless violence’
A handwritten note from President Obama to the family of a Chicago teenager gunned down near the president’s South Side home pledges to press on to end future incidents of gun violence, further indication the White House hopes to use the murder to rally support for new restrictions on arms.
“Michelle and I just wanted you to know how heartbroken we are to have heard about Hadiya’s passing,” the president wrote in a letter that was reproduced in 15-year old Hadiya Pendleton’s funeral program and obtained by the Chicago Tribune. “We know that no words from us can soothe the pain, but rest assured that we are praying for you, and that we will continue to work as hard as we can to end this senseless violence.”
…
he administration will continue to advocate for the gun control package, which calls for universal background checks, and assault weapons ban, and a limit on magazine capacity, at a series of events next week.
