From Benjamin Franklin at the Constitutional Convention:
In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of Lights to illuminate our understanding? In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for the Divine protection. Our prayers, sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor. . . . And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance? I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel. . . . I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business.
This country and its people are divided by design in order for the government to fail and a “better” type implemented. The only way to take control of our future and freedom is to unify instead of diversify. Here are several options upon which we could unite:
- political party
- nationalism
- foreign war
- religion
- economic
Some options may unite us for a short period of time as the 911 attacks did. Alternatives and variations may work but there is only one method that I believe will be successful and it is the same that our founding fathers used. I see no other option to regain our spiritual and moral foundation other than by turning to God and asking for His help. The natural laws ordained by God have been abridged, attacked, forgotten and manipulated.
I understand that a large portion of the country is not Christian at this point. I understand that many Christians need to rekindle their relationship with God and His Holy son. I understand that many lives will be lost by supporting our Faith. I also understand that this is the only path we have to become a righteous people and nation. When all other paths lead to darkness, it is incumbent for us to take the path into the light.
How can we accomplish this unification when our churches have failed us and our government has minimized religious services under the guise of public safety? As always, a first step must be taken and that is outlined above by Mr. Franklin. If we ask for His guidance, He will provide it.
So I ask why we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of Lights to illuminate our understanding?
David DeGerolamo
Those who know Him do ask, daily,or more often than that.
We have to be prepared to accept that it is possible that this time the answer may not be what we want it to be.It may be that mankind has fulfilled all the perverse and idoloutrous requirements to bring Him down in wrath for the final cleansing and the end of this flesh age.
Three times in the book of Jeremiah when the people would not listen to Fathers word and were about to be destroyed as a nation and taken into captivity,Father instructed not to pray for this people meaning it wouldn’t do any good because to do so would be praying against His will.
He had already made up His mind that He had had enough. It should be considered.
Jeremiah 7:16,11:14,14:11 to document.
i pray that His will be done. i pray for many to humble themselves and turn back too Him.
we are told not all will turn back, (many will not believe they are off course.)i pray for the demons to be exposed and cast out, cast down.
i see the wisdom and relevance in Daniels prayer (we have sinned,we have done wrong) Daniel 9:3-
i gratefully have been led to see the True church. Study, consider, the True church will not, cannot fail.
Hebrews 7:28 For the Torah appoints as high priest men who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Torah, appoints the Son having been perfected forever. Chapter 8 continues….
“ I understand that a large portion of the country is not Christian at this point.“ … “ I also understand that this is the only path we have to become a righteous people and nation.”
I am one of those non Christians. While I am not an active practitioner of religion or my beliefs and my world view are pagan, predominantly Wiccan. I have come to the realization that in many ways my view of god is very different, if not orthogonal to that of the Christian to where they would simply claim that I do not believe in god, which is not true.
Still, I see the problems with this country and want much the same as you. To put it succinctly, to be left alone, without govt. interference in your life and it’s demand for taxes and it’s intrusion, to raise your family with proper values, and extend that to forming a greater, resilient community. The degree to, or manner, in which we view the divine as having as a part to play in that may differ, but we both recognize that it does.
Where I break ties with much of (?) contemporary Christianity is that while I may even share certain values and morals I do not want them backed by force govt. or even legislated. I guess the difference is that I don’t feel the need for an authority to be a moral person.
You would enjoy reading The Real George Washington. Especially the meeting with the Indian chief. The supernatural aspects of the Revolution are not taught in school.
Authority cannot legislate morality. Contemporary Christianity is not the same religion as our forefathers. Look up The Black Robe Regiment. There was a valid reason the English called our Revolution the Presbyterian Rebellion.
Agree with the post and would say, “contemporary Christianity ” is not the same as the Messiah’s teachings.
i believe we missed the mark: Hebrews 8:28 and all of Hebrews 8 describes to me what the True Church should be.
Danials prayer 9:3- is a prayer for today also- we(this Nation and others) have sinned ,we have done wrong!
Matt, I too, have broken ties with contempt christianity. I yet, call myself a Christ-man because I have read, for myself, the words of the Creator. I applaud your integrity. The traditions of man make void the Word of God. Seek and Ye shall find.
There is a vast Gap between a Belief in God and “Religion”, which is a form of Social Construct and Control Mechanism, used by Profoundly Evil ‘men’ (or maybe Reptilian Aliens from the Strange-Matter Universe) to Influence and Control the majority of Men who are focused on Living their own lives and not all that Interested in being “Ruled”.
“Government” as we have today is clearly the creation of Psychopathic Individuals, their mental illness draws them to crave ‘power and control’ over Others because of their own Inability to live productive lives. This is not necessarily connected to any given “Religion”, but certain ‘religions’ and the societies they are derived from, tend towards this Sociopathy.
Like Matt, I am not ‘christian’, but I Reject that anyone cannot be a “Moral Person” without following some man-made ‘religion’ that professes to ‘have all (and the only) answers’ to Morality.
The Problems facing this Nation today are not due to a “Lack of Morality”, as the Majority of people would get along fine were it not for the Corrupting Influence of a tiny Minority of Sociopathic individuals whose only ‘morals’ are Greed. Unfortunately, the majority of Normal People simply cannot comprehend this Fact, nor that Severe Violence is the Only Way to ‘correct’ the situation.
I notice that you did not define a definition of morality. I agree with Adams that a Republic will only function if the people are moral. I see no option forward without morality.
