Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,
Our unemployment rate goes up again and our politicians on both sides of the aisle offer suggestions that will have little effect in the short term. HELLO to Congress and President Obama, all of which seem to be stuck in stupid!
If you want to make an immediate impact on the unemployment rate, might you stop allowing legal immigration (outside of refugees) to the tune of 800,000 persons plus per year to the USA? Does allowing approximately 70,000 people per month to come to America make any sense when we have 14 million people out of work?
And speaking of further head-in-the-sand and finger-in-their-ear mentality, might we want to actually take action to require E-Verify of all businesses and check new and existing employees to make sure they are legal residents, given there are over six million illegal immigrants holding (non-agricultural) jobs in the USA? Those with the highest unemployment rate in America are low-skilled and poorly educated Americans, yet again we are allowing six million illegal immigrants to hold jobs that Americans have done and will do! The unemployment rate for U.S.-born adults without a High School diploma is 22 percent.
So let’s recap for the mentally dull who run our Country —- open up six million existing jobs to citizens through E-Verify and real workplace enforcement by taking existing jobs away from illegals [OK what if we could even open up four million jobs this way] and drastically reduce legal immigration. Our unemployment rate would significantly improve if we took these measures.
The reason I doubt the above will happen is first the Democrats would actually have to truly care about the poor and unemployed (not just talk about it) and not keep them in poverty as beholden voters for government services, and the Republicans of course would have to ask permission from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau (still upset that farmers had to buy mechanized cotton-pickers), the U.S. Restaurant Owners Association, the U.S. Home Builders Association and other cheap labor advocates.
