NC officially calls for Article V convention of states to impose term limits on Congress

The North Carolina Senate passed a resolution on Monday that calls for an Article V convention of the states to impose term limits on members of Congress in Washington, DC.

The North Carolina House already approved the resolution in 2023. The Senate passed the bill in a 29-20 vote on Monday, which officially puts North Carolina on record as the ninth state to agree to a term-limits constitutional amendment specifically. The Constitution requires 34 states to pass a resolution in order for a convention to take place.

While most Democrats voted against the bill and most Republicans were in favor of it, some senators flipped from their party’s positioning. Sen. Mary Wills Bode, D-Granville, supported the resolution, while Republican Sens. Tom McInnis, R-Moore, and Eddie Settle, R-Wilkes, voted against it.

“Let’s be clear, you are opening the doors to a constitutional convention,” said Sen. Graig Meyer, D-Orange. “This is an insane idea. I will vote against it.”

Critics point to fears of a runaway convention or an overhaul of the Constitution, theories that have been debunked by proponents.

You do not need a Constitutional Convention to impose term limits. But that is not the purpose of this legislation. The same Republicans who illegally ratified the 14th Amendment to rewrite the Constitution are once again trying to usurp the will of the people under the guise of working for the people.

Yes, Jane. As the article you linked to shows, the real purpose of asking Congress to call an Article V Convention is to provide to those financing the push the opportunity to impose a new Constitution.
“Term Limits” is merely the bait -- and the Stupid Ones bit.

If not a constitutional amendment to create term limits, are you suggesting a law passed by the US congress? That may be very difficult considering who we have in congress. A consideration in regards to limiting senate terms may be the repeal of the seventeenth amendment to the constitution.

First: Read the text of Article V, US Constitution. It provides two methods for proposing Amendments to the US Constitution. What are the two methods? Hint: How did we get the existing 27 Amendments?
Second: Congressional Term Limits would result in a massive transfer of power FROM The People TO the Deep State: https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/term-limits-feb.-2020.pdf

Read MS Martin’s blog. The COS effort has been around for a good long time, without much success, fortunately. It is being pushed by the Uniparty, if that helps. Term limits is just the latest dog whistle to encourage states to adopt it. Consider that this iteration will be limited to “term limits” but the Uniparty are the limiters.

An Article 5 convention is the worst idea on the planet. We don’t have the same caliber of people nor the same character nor intellect in the people who would affect the outcome. Commie-libs will swamp the convention and that will be the end.

The globalist Kochs are the biggest funders on the fake “Right” of the push for an Article V convention. And they are cozy with George Soros. The globalists are hell-bent on moving the United States into a World gov’t dominated by the UN. I lay out proof in the Article Jane linked to.

For God’s sake folks go read Article V. There is no such thing as a runaway convention. Any amendment proposed by the convention still has to be approved by 3/4 of the state legislatures, just like the ones passed by a 2/3 vote of the senate and house.

Mike Alexander: You uncritically accepted what you were told by the convention lobby -- and it is all lies.
Read the Declaration of Independence which recognizes the “self-evident Truth” that people have the right to throw off their gov’t and set up a new one.
Then read https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/george-mason-never-said-it.pdf and all of the links: You will see that James Madison expressly warned that that who secretly wish for a new Constitution would push for a convention under the pretext of getting amendments; and that Alexander Hamilton, 4 US Supreme Court Justices, and other legal scholars warned against another Convention for the reason that the Delegates can not be controlled.
I suggest that James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, 4 SCOTUS Justices, and the other legal scholars (who aren’t getting paid big bucks to lobby for a convention) know a heck of a lot more about this subject than you do.
Don’t be the villian in the sprouts video on Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity.

Is there a group actively working against this push for a convention, including persuading the 29 states to rescind their endorsements? Thank you.

Rick, the Workers are few and for the most part unpaid. I’m in a small group of unpaid volunteers which tracks what is going on in all 50 States and organizes letter writing and telephone calling to educate State Legislators. I develop the legal arguments -- see, e.g., the Flyer I urged Alexander to read. See also the Article Jane linked to. That links to many of the flyers I have prepared.
The John Birch Society is helping fight this. Eagle Forum has helped with the expenses involved in tracking the applications for a convention which have been introduced in all 50 states & getting legislators’ addresses. Other organizations have helped from time to time. but for the most part, the push for a convention is done by unpaid volunteers.
