President Obama gave the following speech today at the United Nations concerning American support of a Palestinian State. Although he is hedging his position until after meetings with both the leaders of the Palestinian Authority and Israel, it appears that he is leaning toward supporting Israeli security interests at this time.
One representative of the Palestinian delegation is shown shaking his head near the end of the speech (5.52 minutes). Why do the Palestinian people deserve their own country (state)? There has never been a Palestine in history.
I agree with Obama that “Peace is Hard Work” but peace in the Middle East will never be accomplished through compromise. If that was true, Arafat would have accepted the Israeli capitulation to all of his demands in Oslo. The end of this speech concerning understanding each other’s hopes and fears is empty rhetoric: the Palestinians will never understand anything other than their stated purpose of destroying Israel.
