On the origin and continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2

Our results suggest that the development of new variations in functional sites in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike seen in SARS-CoV-2 and viruses from pangolin SARSr-CoVs are likely caused by mutations and natural selection besides recombination.

So the Chinese were developing a vaccine that represents the S strain and then tested vaccine with the introduction of the L strain into the general population?

Is it the source of the virus that is the issue? This coronavirus is not from bats but from foul. And this virus can be traced back to U.S. research institutions?
