U.S. Patrols to Test China’s Pledge on South China Sea Islands

The U.S. determination to challenge China with patrols near Chinese-built islands in the South China Sea will test Xi Jinping’s recent pledge that Beijing doesn’t intend to “militarize” the islands, an announcement that took U.S. officials by surprise.

The Chinese leader made the commitment during a news conference with President Barack Obama at the White House late last month, though he left it unclear how the pledge would affect China’s activities in the disputed area of the South China Sea.

If Mr. Xi’s goal was to discourage the U.S. from conducting patrols near the artificial islands, he doesn’t appear to have succeeded. After months of debate in the U.S. government, there is now a consensus that the U.S. Navy should send ships or aircraft within 12 nautical miles of the artificial islands to challenge China’s territorial claims there, according to people familiar with internal discussions.

Q: Why is the level of total debt outstanding in the September 18, 2015 release of the Z.1 Financial Accounts of the United States so much higher than it was in the previous Z.1 release?

Total debt outstanding was revised upwards due to methodology changes to both Treasury securities and security credit. Total debt outstanding is now the sum of two new instrument categories: debt securities (table L.208) and loans (table L.214). The aggregate of these instrument categories was previously called credit market instruments.

Treasury securities, part of the debt securities instrument category, now include nonmarketable Treasury securities held by federal government defined benefit retirement plans (FL343061145). The inclusion of federal government defined benefit retirement plans resulted in an upward revision to the level of federal government debt of about $1.408 trillion for 2014:Q4. In the domestic financial sector, borrowing previously classified as security credit liabilities (see release highlights) are now included as part of loans for the securities brokers and dealers sector. These are: (1) U.S.-chartered depository institutions loans for purchasing or carrying securities (FL763067003); (2) foreign banking offices in the U.S. loans for purchasing or carrying securities (FL753067003); and (3) Households and nonprofit organizations cash accounts at brokers and dealers (FL153067005). The revision to broker dealer debt for 2014:Q4 was roughly $962 billion.

Similarly, borrowing previously classified as security credit liabilities of the household sector are now classified as loan liabilities. Margin accounts at brokers and dealers (FL663067003) are now included in the household sector’s other loans and advances instrument category. This change resulted in an upward revision of $370 billion to the outstanding amount of household sector loans for 2014:Q4.

The bottom line:

The total revision to the level of debt outstanding (debt securities plus loans) due to these methodology changes is approximately $2.74 trillion 2014:Q4.

Since moving to the Murphy, it has been quite nice not to see the evil that our political elite practice in Raleigh. Most people here have no idea who David Price or Renee Ellmers are or what they have done (and continue to do). Mrs. Ellmers’ defense concerning rumors that her alleged affair with Rep. McCarthy is that they are not true and that she will pray for people who are bearing false witness against her.

I would like to believe her. For the sake of her marriage and family. But I do not believe her. Her performance since her election by default over Bob Etheridge after his attack on college students, is a sad commentary on her and the NC Republican Party leadership who have supported her. I can only surmise that their support was due to their ability to manipulate and possibly blackmail her to do their bidding.

While covering her election campaign, the consensus was simple by informed voters: she was an airhead who parroted what people (and her opposing candidates) said. I can only wish that I had recorded the meeting with the two candidates and her representative (she did not even come) with me outlining their upcoming debate. It was good comedy then and looking back now, tragic for North Carolina.

You pull a list of capital expenditures and projects from your desk drawer. Zero percent interest makes much of the list feasible—expansion, better offices, new products and markets, more hiring, and so on. It’s just the shot in the arm your business needs.

Eighty-one months—almost seven years—later and you’ve crossed off every item on your original list plus ones you added after the bank’s phone call. Your first projects were solid successes, the next ones not quite as profitable, and the last few only marginally so or outright money losers. You’re worried. Turns out that you weren’t the only businessperson getting zero-interest-rate loans; everyone else was, too. Competition has become more fierce, because some of your fly-by-night competitors, who should have gone out of business long ago, have been kept alive. Although the bank isn’t charging interest, it’s time to repay the loan. You’re not sure you can do so without closing something and laying people off.

A professional gynecologist who during the 1980s performed hundreds of first and second trimester abortions has submitted congressional testimony describing the graphic nature of the procedure.

Dr. Anthony Levatino of New Mexico gave testimony Thursday afternoon to the House Judiciary Committee as part of an investigation into Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

In graphic detail, Levatino described the process of a Suction D&E procedure, which involves using a sopher clamp to rip limbs off an aborted baby.

“Once you have grasped something inside, squeeze on the clamp to set the jaws and pull hard — really hard. You feel something let go and out pops a fully formed leg about six inches long,” reads Levatino’s submitted testimony.

A Yazidi community member has shared a gruesome story where one mother captured by the Islamic State terror group was told she ate the meat of her own toddler. The Yazidis have been speaking out about the atrocities they continue suffer at the hands of IS, and have criticized President Obama for not doing enough to help them.

Vian Dakhil spoke with Politico on Wednesday and explained that as many as 2,200 Yazidi women and girls have been kidnapped by IS and are being used a sex slaves. Another 420,000 Yazidis are living in refugee camps, which includes thousands of orphans who have no home.

Dakhil shared one particularly horrifying story, where IS fighters forced a starving mother to eat the meat of her own child, or at least told her so.

“One of the mothers calls me … she said ‘for two days the ISIS doesn’t give me any food’ and they separated her children. One of them is 3 years and another is 5 years, after two days they give her rice with meat. After she’s eating, she tell her this is your boy — 3 years,” Dakhil said.

“She tells me please, I can’t, I don’t know what can I do — I’m eating my son. This is what happened with those woman under ISIS control and nobody cares.”

Another mother was forced to watch her 9-year-old daughter being raped to death, Dakhil shared in a separate account.

Terror is effective in subduing people by instilling unbelievable fear with acts of evil. While Obama continues his agenda against Christianity, Putin is fighting against ISIS in the name of Christianity. Their real motives will become clear as will the consequences.

I can only wonder if we will be able to look back at this time in the future with Sacred honor. Will you deny Christ in order to appease Islam? Will you pick up a sword to defend Christianity?
