In late March, my wife and I had our third son, and I’ve loved every second of watching him grow.

There are certain moments you never get back: the first laugh, the first smile, and yes, even all those sleepless nights. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.

But my wife and I know we’re lucky. Unfortunately, there are millions of parents across the country — mothers and fathers — who don’t have access to paid parental leave.

That’s why OFA supporters are fighting to make paid leave a worker’s right — will you join in?

This isn’t just about having time off after childbirth or flexibility to be there for your family when you need it. It’s also about sick days, and having the right to stay home and take care of yourself or a loved one when you need to.

Alan Kay

Alan was born and raised in Georgia, where he spent the majority of his childhood in the forests making shelters with his beloved hatchet. His passion for the woods grew as the years passed, and by the time he was in his 20s, Alan had acquired the skills and mindset necessary to adapt and survive in any environment. In an effort to increase his understanding of edible and medicinal plants, Alan sought out and studied under a number of knowledgeable elders, all of whom helped to round out his growing skill set. He also spent time developing proficiency in the combative arts, including barehanded, stick and knife fighting. In his role as a corrections officer, he’s also been trained in tactical medical care. Alan knows that he’s bound to encounter situations beyond his control and imagination on Vancouver Island. He has left behind a wife and children for this opportunity and is ready to put all of his skills together and push himself to the limits—physically, psychologically and emotionally.

Remember the fable of the frog and the scorpion:

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the 
scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The 
frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion 
says, "Because if I do, I will die too."

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream,
the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of 
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown,
but has just enough time to gasp "Why?" 

Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."

It is human nature to look out for your own best interests. Politicians just take it to a higher level as they continue to take “solutions” and create more problems.

The first step to become free in Liberty is to realize that the politicians who have destroyed our republic have no intention of fixing their actions. There is no political solution.

A first-year elementary school teacher in New Jersey has been fired after a Black History Month class project for her third graders sent “get well” letters to a convicted cop killer who had fallen ill while incarcerated. Though Zuniga has been flanked by hundreds of supporters, her suspension without pay turned into a termination on Wednesday.
