Kay Hagan Is the Most Awkward Candidate of 2014

Awkward. (AP)

Some have argued that Hagan’s success compared to other Democratic incumbents can be attributed to her strength as a candidate or the fact that she has run a “perfect campaign.”

Nonsense. For some reason, Hagan just hasn’t been challenged as much as her Democratic colleagues running in tough races across the country. When members of the press finally started raising questions about sketchy stimulus grants to businesses owned by members of Hagan’s family, she cowered in fear.

When the national media (MSNBC) came to town on Thursday, Hagan embarrassed herself by speaking incomprehensibly about why the Gulf oil spill, which happened in 2010, is an example of the leadership challenges President Obama confronts today.

This is par for the course for Hagan, who prefers not to answer difficult questions. But she is just as awkward when it comes to relatively straightforward questions. Check out the bizarre answer Hagan gave during the 2008 Democratic primary when asked if she preferred Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton:

Ebola outbreak: Cases pass 10,000, WHO reports

Burial in Monrovia, Liberia, 24 Oct

The number of cases in the Ebola outbreak has exceeded 10,000, with 4,922 deaths, the World Health Organization says in its latest report.

Only 27 of the cases have occurred outside the three worst-hit countries, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.

Those three countries account for all but 10 of the fatalities.

Mali became the latest nation to record a death, a two-year-old girl. More than 40 people known to have come into contact with her have been quarantined.

The latest WHO situation report says that Liberia remains the worst affected country, with 2,705 deaths. Sierra Leone has had 1,281 fatalities and there have been 926 in Guinea.

Nigeria has recorded eight deaths and there has been one in Mali and one in the United States.

Another Deutsche Banker And Former SEC Enforcement Attorney Commits Suicide

Back on January 26, a 58-year-old former senior executive at German investment bank behemoth Deutsche Bank, William Broeksmit, was found dead after hanging himself at his London home, and with that, set off an unprecedented series of banker suicides throughout the year which included former Fed officials and numerous JPMorgan traders.

Following a brief late summer spell in which there was little if any news of bankers taking their lives, as reported previously, the banker suicides returned with a bang when none other than the hedge fund partner of infamous former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Khan, Thierry Leyne, a French-Israeli entrepreneur, was found dead after jumping off the 23rd floor of one of the Yoo towers, a prestigious residential complex in Tel Aviv.

Just a few brief hours later the WSJ reported that yet another Deutsche Bank veteran has committed suicide, and not just anyone but the bank’s associate general counsel, 41 year old Calogero “Charlie” Gambino, who was found on the morning of Oct. 20, having also hung himself by the neck from a stairway banister, which according to the New York Police Department was the cause of death. We assume that any relationship to the famous Italian family carrying that last name is purely accidental.

Here is his bio from a recent conference which he attended:

Stop the Flights and Quarantine All Travelers from Infected Countries

New York and New Jersey have realized the danger Ebola represents and have implemented new quarantine procedures. These common sense measures have put a medical worker in quarantine who has now developed a fever. The federal government is either incompetent or complicit in their actions. What is your state doing to protect its state’s citizens? And what is your state doing to ensure your rights are not tread upon under the guise of a medical emergency?

Update 2:

Woman quarantined in New Jersey tests negative for Ebola

A preliminary test shows that a health care worker who traveled to West Africa does not have Ebola, New Jersey officials said Saturday. But the unidentified woman will remain in quarantine at a hospital in Newark for at least 21 days under a controversial new state policy.

The health care worker, who arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday, had treated Ebola patients in a region ravaged by the disease. She did not initially display symptoms of Ebola but later developed a fever, said New Jersey Health Department spokeswoman Donna Leusner.

The woman denied that she had a fever, however, according to a friend, Dr. Seema Yasmin.

Quarantined Traveler Who Returned To N.J. From West Africa Develops Fever

A health care worker who was quarantined at Newark Liberty International Airport after returning from treating Ebola patients in West Africa developed a fever and was being evaluated Friday night.

Medical worker quarantined in New Jersey under new Ebola safeguards

A medical worker quarantined in New Jersey on her return from treating Ebola victims in West Africa was being evaluated in a hospital isolation ward on Saturday after new contagion-control safeguards were imposed for America’s biggest urban center.

She was the first to be quarantined under a policy imposed on Friday by the states of New York and New Jersey requiring all health workers coming from Ebola-stricken West African countries to be automatically confined for monitoring during the 21-day incubation period of the virus.

NAACP Speaker’s Alleged Remarks: Let’s Create Confusion During the Nov. 2014 Election By Deliberately Misleading Voters

According to a letter from a lawyer for the State of North Carolina to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a speaker at a recent NAACP conference in North Carolina urged audience members to mislead the NAACP’s own members into believing they do not need to register to vote in advance, or that they do not need to vote at their assigned polling place. Why?  The letter alleges: To create confusion and animosity during the upcoming mid-term elections in North Carolina, and to use the evidence of that confusion in the ongoing litigation between Eric Holder’s Justice Department and North Carolina and to show that North Carolina’s election integrity laws are discriminatory. From the letter:

It is also our understanding that during the [NAACP conference], Rev. Barber urged those in attendance to take unregistered voters to vote during the Early Voting period and to engage in get-out-the vote activities that included transporting registered voters to vote in precincts in which they are not assigned to vote on Election Day, or words to that effect. The stated purpose for these activities, as I understand it, was to gather evidence for and thereby enhance plaintiffs prospects of success in the litigation involving [North Carolina’s Election Integrity Laws].

Banker Suicides Return: DSK’s Hedge Fund Partner Jumps From 23rd Floor Apartment

The summer, thankfully, has been largely bereft of the dismal trend of bankers committing suicide, but as Bloomberg reports, Thierry Leyne, a French-Israeli banker and partner of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the disgraced former chief of the IMF, was found dead Thursday after apparently taking his own life by jumping off the 23rd floor of one of the Yoo towers, a prestigious residential complex in Tel Aviv. This is the 16th financial services executive death this year.

NYPD Stunner: Cops Exit Ebola Victim Apartment, Dump Gloves, Masks In Sidewalk Trash Can

If there was one theme from last night’s Cuomo/De Blasio Ebola press conference it was ‘how everyone has been preparing for months’ for Ebola. We can all be reassured, right? Wrong! As The Daily Mail reports (and these stunning photos show), the police officers involved in securing Dr. Spencer tossed their gloves, masks and the caution tape used to block off access to his apartment in a public trash can.

Feel safer? I believe this Ebola case in New York was caught in time. However the government’s policy of open borders will eventually lead to an outbreak of Ebola that will not be stopped. Why?
