The Scottish Independence Vote (and Other Things)

Which Art In Hopeby Francis Porretto

By now you’re probably aware that the Scots voted 55% / 45% to remain united to England and Wales. What you might not know is the reason.

Bret Baier’s Special Report conducted some street-level interviews in several Scottish cities to determine the attitudes of ordinary Scots toward independence. A substantial number of Scots opined that Scotland should remain within the United Kingdom because subsidies, national government funding for various programs, and assorted transfer payments from London to Scotland considerably exceed tax payments from Scotland to London — in other words, so Scots could continue to live at the rest of the U.K.’s expense.

I was immediately reminded of the Quebec separatist movement of the Seventies. You may recall that Quebec was at one point a hotbed of secessionist sentiment. What ultimately derailed that movement was exactly the same influence — except in that case, Ottawa was willing to see Quebec leave the Canadian union, but the Quebecois insisted that even once separation had occurred and Quebecois were no longer paying taxes to Ottawa, transfer payments from Ottawa must continue to flow into Quebec.

Cheeky, eh? Yet you’d find many persons here in America of a similar mind, which to a great extent explains Washington’s determination to federalize every program and every position down to deputy assistant dog catchers.

BUSH LITE

From YouTube:

He’s launched airstrikes and is threatening ground troops but IT’S NOT WAR. He took a victory lap for Osama bin Laden but opposed the means that got his location. He’s broken every Progressive policy and gospel on the books, and he’s doing the same things for the same reasons his predecessor did, only he’s doing them late, doing them badly and blaming everyone else. In his latest Firewall Bill Whittle shows why Barack Obama is nothing more than Bush Lite.

The Constitution: The God That Failed (To Liberate Us From Big Government) by Bill Buppert

A quick thought experiment is in order. If the Second Amendment has any meaning, how does one explain the Constitutional imprimatur and stamp of approval on the 1934 NFA, 1939 US v. Miller, 1968 GCA, 1986 FOPA, 1989 Bush prohibition on the importation of cosmetically offensive weapons and the very existence of the BATFE? All government approved and enforced; move along citizen, no infringement here.

The answer is elegantly simple: limited government is impossible and the rulers do as they please using the document that destroyed the state’s individual presumptions and nationalized the edict and issue of executive regulation to the atomistic level. The Federalist project was a means to effectively manage tax cattle and when possible invade the rest of the planet with the contagion the document created to put every human being under its power on a permanent plantation.

One additional observation: is it not instructive that in every case where an individual seeks redress against government abuse, they never use the body of the Constitution but the anemic Bill of Rights the Federalists objected to? Read Hamilton’s weak arguments against the Bill of Rights in Federalist #84 for a clue where these scoundrels were headed.

Boehner and Pelosi Unite to Pass Bill Funding Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, Syrian Revolutionaries

John Boehner and Nancy Pelosi

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) joined forces early Wednesday evening as the House passed a continuing resolution that will fund the government after the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, and that will permit funding for Planned Parenthood (the nation’s largest abortion provider), the entirety of Obamacare, and an amendment requested by President Barack Obama “to train and equip appropriately vetted elements of the Syrian opposition.”

The bill passed 319 to 108 with four members not voting. But there were not enough Republicans members to pass the bill without significant support from Democrats. While Pelosi sided with the Republican leadership and voted for the bill, 53 Republicans joined with 55 Democrats in voting against it.

In addition to Pelosi, other Democrats voting for the Republican leadership’s bill, included Rep. John Conyers (D.-Mich.), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schlultz (D.-Fla.), and Xavier Becerra (D.-Calif.).

Syrian Child Soldier: “I’ve Gotten Used to Killing Soldiers”

From YouTube:

Lebanese channel LDC TV aired on September 13 a news report about the phenomenon of child soldiers in Syria. The report included an interview with 12-year-old Midyan, who had become a sniper in the ranks of the Syrian opposition after his father was killed in battle.

Obama: It’s for the Children

The pResident’s open border and distribution of illegal aliens has now infected 20 states with EV-D68. As the article below states, children are most affected by the enterovirus. And yet there is no public outcry from the medical community. Or the educational system which is spreading the virus in our schools. What happens when Ebola comes to our country?

Got Faith?

NEARLY 20 STATES NOW REPORTING ENTEROVIRUS D68 OUTBREAK

Cases of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) are exploding all across the country with nearly 20 states reporting dozens of cases. The outbreaks are growing so quickly that the Centers for Disease Control are lagging far behind announced cases.

On Wednesday the Washington Post  reported that 16 states had reported cases of the respiratory illness. But only hours later, New Jersey also announced  it had found some cases quickly bringing that number up to 17. Then Minnesota became the 18th state  later that same day.

The outbreak has been growing since at least mid-August.

The CDC confirms that children are most susceptible  to D68 because their immune systems are not yet developed enough to beat the virus.

How Bad Is the Ebola Outbreak in Liberia?

Over the next few weeks I am going to try and give you some updates on the Ebola outbreak from sources on the ground. My brother has missions in West Africa and he knows people on the front line in Liberia. I have asked him to send me some periodic updates from his friends on what is happening in real time.

I think that this is important because according to his first report the size and scope of what is going on is being way under reported. According to what he told me, everyone has run out of supplies such as bleach and rubber gloves. One of the missions that he is associated with sent him an urgent request for the aforementioned items.

They have put together a care package and have shipped it to hopefully help them out in their need. I spoke with my brother last night and he said that contrary to news reports, large sections of Monrovia are still under absolute quarantine. He said that the part of the city that juts into the ocean and is sealed off(Map here: http://www.mapsofworld.com/liberia/monrovia.html) and all the residents not dying of Ebola are being starved to death.

ISIS VIDEO – Flames of War Trailer

Flames of War Trailer In one of the Islamic State’s first responses to President Obama’s declaration that he would “degrade and ultimately destroy” it, the group released a short video late Tuesday in which it appeared to say that its militants would kill American ground forces should President Obama deploy them.

It begins with American tanks and troops under attack by fire and American soldiers carrying a wounded comrade into an armored vehicle.

The images flick by, including a shot of the “Mission Accomplished” banner that served as a backdrop on the day President George W. Bush landed on an aircraft carrier six weeks after the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. That is followed by shots of Mr. Obama and the White House at night.

In the background, Mr. Obama is heard saying, “American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq.” The screen goes dark, and then a clip is played of what appears to be a militant for the group who is preparing to execute men on their knees.

The words “Flames of War” appear, with the phrase “Fighting has just begun” below.

Laith Alkhouri, a senior analyst at Flashpoint Global Partners, a New York security consulting firm that tracks militant websites, said the Islamic State “appears to be more relentless than ever, not only expanding in territory but also raising the bar in its confrontation with the world’s top superpower.”

“In some ways, it’s attempting to prove to jihadists that while Al Qaeda is missing in action, we are rising to the occasion,” Mr. Alkhouri said. “It demonstrates the true intention of the group, to operate on an international level.”

Boykin: Sending military to fight Ebola ‘misuse’ of soldiers

“Sending the U.S. military to combat Ebola in Liberia is an absolute misuse of the U.S. military,” Gen. William G. Boykin explained to WND in an exclusive telephone interview.

“The health mission in Liberia would be better accomplished by private sector NGOs [Non-Governmental Units], including the French organization Médecins San Frontières (MSF), Doctors without Borders, among others, or by some other U.S. government agency such as the Department of Health and Human Services,” he stressed.

“I believe it is a total misuse of the U.S. military’s capabilities at a time when the U.S. military is taking drastic budget cuts, it is being extraordinarily thin, and it is being recommitted to conflict in Iraq. I object to this quite strongly.”
