Russian fighter jets on combat alert

The Russian defense ministry announced Thursday, Feb. 27 that fighter jets stood on combat alert along its western borders with Ukraine. Moscow repeated its commitment to protect Russian-speaking elements in the Crimean Peninsula. Earlier, armed men carried out a pro-Russian coup in the Crimean capital, by seizing government and parliamentary buildings and hoisting Russian flags – in response to the pro-European coup in Kiev. Forces loyal to the provisional government in Kiev meanwhile surround the area which they say was occupied by “criminals in army fatigues.”

The pro-Russian coup came on the heels of a day of violent clashes between pro-Russian and pro-European protesters in the Crimean capital, prompting a Russian military alert. DEBKAfile: Witnesses in Crimea Wednesday night saw Russian military equipment moving into the peninsula. We reported earlier that Vladimir Putin would never relinquish Russian control of the Crimean peninsula and its military bases there – or more particularly the big Black Sea naval base at Sevastopol.

This military stronghold is the key to Russia’s Middle East policy. If it is imperiled, so too are Russia’s military posture in Syria and its strategic understandings with Iran.

This peril raised its head Wednesday, Feb. 26, when pro-Russian and pro-European protesters clashed violently in the Crimean town of Simferopol, the Peninsula’s financial and highway hub.

WeHo Bar To ‘Deny Entry’ To Lawmakers Who Back Anti-Gay Legislation

Southern California lawmakers who support legislation to discriminate against gays and lesbians now have one less hotspot to visit in West Hollywood.

David Cooley, the founder of  The Abbey Food & Bar located at 692 North Robertson Blvd., has announced the popular gay bar will add any legislator in any state who votes for “bills to allow for discrimination against LGBT people” to a “Deny Entry List.”

In a statement, Cooley said The Abbey will also display headshots of each state representative who support bills on the security list, including Kansas House  Bill 2453, Arizona Senate Bill 1062, Idaho House Bill 426, Ohio House Bill 82 and other similar proposals.

“I want to send a message to all those people out there who conflate Christian values with discrimination: we don’t want your kind here,” Cooley said. “I’ve learned that I can’t stop crazy, ignorant or stupid, but I can stop it from coming through my doors.”

What If America on the Right Acted Like Leftists?

The leftists usually win the battles over social issues because the right has yet to enter the fray. This is the difference between America on the left and America on the right: they play by different rules. The left will always use everything at its disposal to win, whereas the right is usually limited by its  principles.

Let’s take the issue of the Christian cake baker and the gay couple for instance. A gay couple, it could be argued with intent to create a legal case, goes into a bakery known for its Christian values and demands a cake to be baked for their gay wedding. The gay couple is committed to the lawsuit, probably has pro-bono, leftist, gay lawyers standing by at the ready. The Christian baker is obligated to stand by his convictions to his religious beliefs and refuses service to the gay couple.

A Supreme Court decision on the issue will reduce the religious liberty of every Christian-owned business in the nation forever. It will become a “settled” issue. It is a huge win for the leftists and a blow to liberty and Christians. It is an attack.

I think where all this is headed is debt default by the United States and intervention by the IMF. I believe the IMF will intervene in U.S. Treasuries.” Smith thinks America is headed for one big “final swindle.” Smith says the government is “cornering the last vestiges of U.S. wealth in the Treasury market and then will cut the legs out from under the Treasury market and thereby destroying the few people left in the middle class and deal with an economic collapse situation. . . . I think we will not see a full-on collapse where we wake up and there is nothing. We will have a slow to medium speed collapse where we will lose a considerable percentage of the value of the dollar. We will see major price hikes in necessary goods such as food, energy and electricity. I think the ultimate goal is to have the IMF move in and take over the management of the U.S. economy. I think the IMF and the U.N. will work hand in hand to rebuild the U.S. economy once it collapses.” Smith goes on to say, “I have never seen so many possible global trigger events in the short time since I started to report on these global events. If you would have told me back in 2008 that we may one day be on the verge of WWIII in Ukraine or with China and Japan, I might not have believed you. . . . I think there is a good possibility of a limited exchange, or limited use of nuclear weapons.”

Pro-Russian Gunmen Seize Ukraine Crimean Parliament

All those clips we showed in the past few days of Russian forces amassing in the Crimean (such as this one)? Well, turns out they were all predictive of what has just happened in the Crimean region parliament at Simferopol, where around 120 pro-Russian Gunmen occupied the parliament building and raised the Russian flag. The scene was the site of Wednesday’s scuffles between Tatar groups and pro-Russian supporters. As Euronews reports, local Tatar leader Refat Chubarov posted that the buildings have been occupied by men in uniforms bearing “no recognisable insignia.” Kyiv says it would regard any movements by Russian military in Crimea outside Moscow’s Black Sea Base in Sevastopol as an act of aggression. Following the fall of President Viktor Yanukovych divisions in Ukraine have come to the fore. All this happens as Russian troops in the area are building up and at the same time as Russia put fighter jets on combat alert, according to Interfax.

Planned Parenthood Affiliate Produces Video Promoting Bondage and Sadomasochism to Teens

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE)–which received more than $2.75 million in government funding in 2012–has produced and posted online a video specifically aimed at teenagers that promotes bondage and sadomasochism (BDSM) and proposes “rules” to follow when engaging in these activities.

“People sometimes think that those who practice BDSM are emotionally scarred or were once abused—not true, it’s a total myth,” the host of the video, Laci Green, informs its intended audience of teens.

“BDSM relies upon and creates trust,” she says.

Chinese Trust Firm Places Shadow Banking Back In Spotlight

Disaster has apparently been averted in what some referred as a potential precedent setting delinquency in China.

China Credit Trust Ltd. loaned funds from the trust, known as “2010 China Credit/Credit Equals Gold #1 Collective Trust Product,” to a coal company called Shanxi Zhenfu Energy Group. It has since collapsed due to its failure to obtain licenses needed to operate. The trust reached an agreement with investors who contributed to the 3 billion yuan ($496 million) product. Investors will recover their initial contributions but none of the promised interest, according to Reuters via finance magazine Caixin.

The news panicked global markets as the Jan., 31 maturity date of the product approached. The general perception that these types of shadow banking products are backed by partner and state banks was put to a test that it has apparently passed for now. Though crisis has been averted, many analysts believe it’s a matter of time before a major default occurs with these types of shadow banking products.

There is no way that President Vladimir Putin will relinquish Russian control of the Crimean peninsula and its military bases there – or more particularly the big Black Sea naval base at Sevastopol. This military stronghold is the key to Russia’s Middle East policy. If it is imperiled, so too are Russia’s military posture in Syria and its strategic understandings with Iran.

This peril raised its head Wednesday, Feb. 26, when pro-Russian and pro-European protesters clashed violently in the Crimean town of Simferopol, the Peninsula’s financial and highway hub.

Most of the protesters against Moscow were members of the minority Tatar community, who had gathered from around the region to demand that Crimea accept Kiev rule.

The majority population is Russian speaking and fought the Tatar demonstrators. However,  rival historic claims to this strategic peninsula were in full flight, sparking red lights in Moscow to danger.

The Tatars ruled Crimea in the 18th century. If they manage to expel Russian influence from Simferopol and then the rest of the region, it would be the signal for dozens of the small peoples who make up the Russian Federation to go into separatist mode and raise the flags of mutiny. The Kremlin is therefore bound to nip the Tatar outbreak in the bud to save Russia.

In addition to developing some online courseware for Forward Observer Dispatch, I’m going to enroll in a few free online course via Coursera.  This is just one of many websites that features online courses from Yale, MIT, Stanford, and other great schools.

Analysts have two jobs: 1) arrive at accurate conclusions and 2) remove bias from our thinking.  Intelligence is a thinking man’s game.  If you take the time to learn how to improve thought processes, then your intelligence work can greatly contribute to your security, whether that’s defending against Leroy Jenkins in post-SHTF, or defending your rights, community, and state from the hard tyranny of regime warlords.

This is why we take the time to improve the intelligence functions of our operations.  Intelligence drives the fight.  Without intelligence, there are no operations.  Why are we patrolling here?  Because intelligence indicates the possible presence of bad guys.  Why are we putting up surveillance here?  Because our Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) says that the enemy may advance from this direction.  Why are we kicking in this door?  Because this bad guy lives here.  It all comes back to intelligence collection and analysis.
