Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, told ABC News’s Jon Karl on “This Week with George Stephanopolous” on Sunday that the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia will be “very much threatened.”

“The fact is that these are going to be very much threatened Olympics. Probably more than any we’ve had in our past, more than Greece, certainly more than London or China,” said King, who said he could not give U.S. athletes a “100 percent guarantee” that they would be safe in Sochi.

When Does It Stop Being Isolated Incidents?

Pinal County Sheriff Deputy kills Manuel Longoria while Longoria’s hands are raised in the air.

Manuel Longoria, of Mesa, led police on a 40-minute chase in Eloy, and only stopped after sheriff’s deputies crippled the stolen Toyota Corolla with a tire-popping device. Witnesses said that Longoria told police after he got out of the car, surrounded, that he wouldn’t be taken alive. Police fired Tasers and beanbags at him before he turned around.The video shows him with his hands above his head. One second later, a sheriff’s deputy fired two shots into him, killing him.Investigators found no weapon. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said it investigated the shooting and found the officer’s use of lethal force justified.

The shooter returned to duty a week later.

The next Trayvon case about to explode?

A racially charged shooting incident in North Carolina with eerie parallels to the Trayvon Martin drama has ended in the same way – with a jury refusing to hand state authorities the politically pressured charges they sought against the shooter

In a decision angering the NAACP and other civil-rights activists clamoring for “justice,” a Charlotte grand jury has declined to indict Charlotte Police Officer Randall Kerrick for voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 24-year-old black man who refused to obey orders to stop after police responded to a robbery call.

Jurors thought the evidence presented against the white officer did not support the manslaughter charge. As WND first reported in October, evidence showed authorities overcharged the shooter, who claimed self defense. Kerrick faced a prison sentence of up to 11 years.

Still, state authorities plan to resubmit the charge to a new panel of grand jurors scheduled to meet on Monday. The NAACP plans to protest outside the Charlotte courthouse during their deliberations.

Bill Gertz: U.S. Identifies Terror Group Threatening Attacks on the Olympics

Russia Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Venues

Terrorists with a North Caucasus Islamist group are promising to carry out suicide bomb attacks at the upcoming Olympic games in Sochi next month, including chemical arms strikes.

The Russian terror group Caucasus Emirate, also known as Imarat Kavkaz, is believed to have jihadists in place within Sochi who are ready to strike during the games, set to begin Feb. 7, said U.S. officials with access to intelligence.

New threats of terror attacks on the games were made in a video released last week revealing two terrorists and a bomb-maker behind the recent suicide bombings in Volgograd, some 600 miles northwest of Sochi. The blasts killed 34 people and injured scores more.

According to the officials, the Jan. 19 video provided disinformation linking those blasts to a previously unknown group identified in the film as “Ansar al-Sunna.” Officials said the group is actually part of the Dagestani terrorist group Caucasus Emirate.

U.S. officials say the unconfirmed reports that the group’s leader Doku Umarov was killed are not expected to lessen the threat of terrorist attacks by his group on the winter games.

Are We On The Verge Of A Massive Emerging Markets Currency Collapse?

This time, the Federal Reserve has created a truly global problem.  A big chunk of the trillions of dollars that it pumped into the financial system over the past several years has flowed into emerging markets.  But now that the Fed has decided to begin “the taper”, investors see it as a sign to pull the “hot money” out of emerging markets as rapidly as possible.  This is causing currencies to collapse and interest rates to soar all over the planet.  Argentina, Turkey, South Africa, Ukraine, Chile, Indonesia, Venezuela, India, Brazil, Taiwan and Malaysia are just some of the emerging markets that have been hit hard so far.  In fact, last week emerging market currencies experienced the biggest decline that we have seen since the financial crisis of 2008.  And all of this chaos in emerging markets is seriously spooking Wall Street as well.  The Dow has fallen nearly 500 points over the last two trading sessions alone.  If the Federal Reserve opts to taper even more in the coming days, this currency crisis could rapidly turn into a complete and total currency collapse.

A lot of Americans have always assumed that the U.S. dollar would be the first currency to collapse when the next great financial crisis happens.  But actually, right now just the opposite is happening and it is causing chaos all over the planet.

Following the rejection of President Yanukovych’s offers of key positions to opposition leaders (because key demands were not met), unrest is now spreading further into the country’s east, which is seen as Mr Yanukovych’s support base (as we discussed here). As The BBC reports, at least a dozen attempts by protesters to seize government buildings were made with the Justice Ministry successfully over-run.Justice Minister Olena Lukash, an ally of Yanukovych and involved in the negotiations, has called for a “state of emergency” if protesters – who claim “the seizure of the Ministry of Justice is a symbolic act of the people of the uprising. Now, these authorities are stripped of justice,” – do not leave. Furthermore, he said she would be “forced to turn to the Ukrainian president with a request to stop the negotiations unless the justice ministry building is vacated without delay.” The Ukraine Hyrvnia has weakened markedly despite the central bank’s intervention.
