Portugal Confiscates Private Pension Funds – Can It Happen in the United States?

Portugal has confiscated $7.5 billion of private pension funds (November 2, 2011) as a last ditch effort to meet deficit targets. This is the European model for introducing “austerity” programs: steal the wealth from the producers. This is not the first time that this type of governmental theft has occurred as Neil Boortz outlined last year. I bolded the last paragraph where he warns us of the Obama administration’s study to do the same here:

The Government Is Now Coming “For the People”

A glimpse of the future has played out in Houston but the ramifications should not be overlooked. As written in an earlier article, two pastors were arrested for warning people about the evils of homosexuality. There were other sins outlined on their sign but this Biblical warning against homosexuality is found in both the old and new testaments was the source of their arrest.

A homosexual judge took exception to their message and four police officers arrested the pastors. The pastors were release for insufficient evidence but what lessons do we need to learn from this abuse of power?

1. The first officer stated in the video that they were doing nothing wrong legally. But they were still arrested.

On the Subject of Redistribution …

David posted an article this morning: “The Impotent GOP Response to the IMF Redistribution of America’s Wealth”.

By coincidence I was reading on the same subject this morning … the redistribution part.

My source was not contemporary news, but rather a critique of unconstitutional behavior of the Supreme Court and US government … written in 1820.

The following excerpts are from “Construction Construed, and Constitutions Vindicated”, Section 12, by John Taylor:

The points presenting themselves … are, first, whether either the federal or state governments possess a right to distribute wealth and poverty, gain and loss between occupations and individuals. Secondly, whether the federal government possess this right. And thirdly, supposing both or either to possess such a right, whether it is wise, or honest, or beneficial to the United States, to exercise it.

The Latest Rumor: Fed To Fund IMF, Bypassing Congressional Refusal Of European Bailout

The following article from the Hill outlines an attempt by “conservatives” to prevent a bailout of the European Union by the IMF. The United States would be responsible for 17.71% of this bailout under old rules. The new rules by the IMF increase this fivefold now and tenfold in the future.

Two points:

1. The European Union will collapse no matter how much money is put into this black hole. See Tom Coburn’s remarks below.

2. The “conservatives” need to understand that the Federal Reserve is the IMF and that they have no power over this EU bailout. If the people of the United States understood what is happening with our nation’s wealth, we would have already had our second revolution.

Asheville area immigration raid one of the largest

ASHEVILLE — Twelve Buncombe County restaurant workers were detained in one of the largest immigration raids in the mountains, according to a local immigrant’s rights group.

Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement went into the Shogun Buffet Hibachi Grill & Sushi restaurant at 1000 Brevard Road Tuesday, said Ada Volkmer with Defensa Comunitaria.

“ICE went in around 10 a.m. before the restaurant opened and arrested the employees,” she said.

Volker said the agents detained eight people from Latin American countries and four Asian immigrants ranging in age from 23 to about 40. Some of the immigrants were from Mexico and El Salvador, she said. She didn’t know from which Asian country the four immigrants came.

ICE southeastern spokesman Vincent Picard confirmed that agents went to the restaurant but refused to comment on any detentions.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations agents investigating suspected violations of U.S. employment laws visited the Shogun Buffet restaurant in Asheville (Tuesday). Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, no further information is available at this time,” he said in an emailed statement.

I notice that no details about specific statements were given that would have resulted in her ouster by “consensus”. At least Occupy Asheville operates in the same manner as the mainstream media: people are not given an opportunity to defend themselves against public charges.

Fed Action Explained

America’s central bank, the Federal Reserve (Fed), in coordination with five other global central banks (Bank of Canada, Bank of England, Bank of Japan, European Central Bank, Swiss National Bank), surprised financial market participants with a surprise change to an already existing program related to US dollar swap lines (yes, swap: exchange one for the other).

This wasn’t an announcement of a new liquidity program, this wasn’’t printing of new money. This was simply a lowering of the price (interest rate) required to access an already existing US dollar liquidity program (US dollars swaps).

The countries that make up the European Union and use the Euro currency have serious sovereign debt problems: yearly deficits and massive national debt, in most cases more than 100% of their GDP. While the European Union shares a common currency and monetary policy, they do not share a common fiscal policy run by a federal government. It is on the fiscal side, the political side, where the real problems lie. Elected officials have spent more than 18 months failing to properly address the fiscal challenges they face and the resulting negative impact on European banks.

Stop Indefinite Detention of U.S. Citizens Without Due Process

NOTE FROM STEWART RHODES: Below is an urgent alert from the John Birch society regarding Senate Bill 1867, the Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which will give clear congressional support and authorization for indefinite military detention and military trial of American citizens. If passed, this will amount to a declaration of war against the American people, authorizing the Obama Administration and all future administrations to treat Americans the same as citizens of occupied Iraq orAfghanistan, subjecting us all to military jurisdiction and the jurisdiction of the international laws of war, rather than our Bill of Rights and our domestic criminal laws, upon the mere say so of Obama or one of his minions.

There is a great deal of confusion about this bill, with some incorrectly interpreting it as not affecting American citizens. There is also confusion about the very dangerous legal precedents that this bill seeks to codify and bolster.

I Guess I Am Now a Terrorist

The dismantling of the Constitution of the united States started under Abraham Lincoln is coming to its full fruition. Today’s definition of a terrorist by the government is yesterday’s definition of a patriot. Standing up for your country and principles will mean standing against the government that has usurped our freedom guaranteed by the Constitution and outlined under the Declaration of Independence.

Is anyone else as surprised as me that Eric Holder is still the Attorney General of the United States after overseeing the murder of over 200 Mexican nationals in another BATFE failed effort to increase their budget and override the 2nd amendment? Is anyone else as surprised as me to have a science czar who advocates a worldwide population target of 500 million people? Gov. Christie has asked a valid question of our president: what are we paying you for? Well the same could be said for Congress and the Supreme Court. Has the Republican led House of Representatives done anything since January 2011? The next debt ceiling limit will be reached in two weeks and they gave the president the authority to increase it by executive order.

Today’s gain on Wall Street was nothing short of amazing. Let’s consider the following facts from the close of the market on Tuesday at 4:00 PM through the opening of the markets today.

1. S&P issues a report on 37 banks after the closing bell:

Europe Factors-Shares to snap rally as S&P downgrades banks

European shares are set to snap a three-session winning streak on Wednesday, with financial stocks seen coming under pressure following Standard & Poor’s overnight move to cut its credit ratings on several big European and U.S. banks.

Barclays, HSBC, UBS, JPMorgan Chase & Co , Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley were among the banks that had their ratings reduced by one notch each as the result of a sweeping overhaul of S&P’s ratings criteria. The move could increase
funding costs for some banks. “Yesterday’s downgrades by S&P on a number of banks in both Europe and the U.S. has rocked sentiment in equity markets,” Terry Pratt, trader at IG Markets, said. “This move has essentially overshadowed the progress that had been made in Brussels with regard to leveraging the EFSF bailout fund.” Euro zone finance ministers met in Brussels on Tuesday to agree on leveraging their bailout fund so it can help Italy or Spain should they need aid. The ministers, who may turn to the International Monetary Fund for more help, also agreed to release the next aid payments to Greece and Ireland.
