Is it “anti-faith” to prepare for the very hard times that are coming? You would be surprised at how many Christians believe that this is true. Recently, I have been reading a number of articles by Christian leaders that take the position that Christians should not be preppers, and not too long ago I watched two very well known ministers actually mock the idea of preparing for the future on a major Christian television show. To me, this is exceedingly irresponsible. If you don’t want to do anything to get prepared for the very difficult years that are coming that is your business, but don’t urge multitudes of your fellow believers to go down that road with you.
In Matthew 24, Jesus describes what conditions will be like just prior to His return, and He told us that one of the things that we can expect is famine…
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines, epidemics, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Jesus promises us that famine is coming, and if we truly are entering the period of time that the Bible refers to as “the last days”, this is one of the things that we should fully expect to see.
And yet there are very prominent preachers out there that have taken the liberty to mock other preachers that are actually encouraging their flocks to store up food and supplies.
Well, what are those mocking preachers going to do when things get really crazy and the people in their own congregations don’t have anything to eat?
Are those preachers going to personally feed all of them?
I find most preachers really do not read the Bible. I think most go to the internet and grab a sermon and read it. So if there are any of you out there that do that. Here are some verses on preparing for hard times.
Proverbs 6:6-11
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
Proverbs 21:20
20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
Proverbs 27:12
12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
2 Thessalonians 3:9-11
9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
Proverbs 13:16
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
Proverbs 22:3
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Proverbs 28:19
19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
Those who preach against preparation are evil. It’s as foolish, as ridiculous as telling folks “don’t worry, you can keep your windows open all winter because you KNOW summer is but a few months away. REALLY? NUTS!
Christ, Himself, TOLD us to prepare. Not only Spiritually but physically. Why not listen? Why not heed His warnings?
These people are charlatans and have a special place in hell designated for them. They were warned -- “Woe onto those who deceive their flock”…(paraphrased)
Tom, hadenoughalready,
I agree with and I am with you both on Tom’s Biblical approach of stewardship/prepping through scripture (especially as Revelations is being revealed in the nightly news) and hadenoughalready’s frustration of the ignorance of most Preachers missing the physical prep side of the (the world/spiritual) coin as I think it is obvious the end of the beginning of the Beginning of Sorrows is ending…and the middle of the Beginning of Sorrows is moving towards U.S. (If you don’t think it has already began you are not a Christian living in the Middle-East).
I see a big part of the problem is Pre-Trib.
Now that controversy may be another thread.
As a guy who is torn in-between Pre-Wrath and Post-Trib I believe a vast number of the Pre-Tribers will fall for the great delusion and do one of two things:
1. Die because of their complete and total lack of Prep.
2. Take the mark and die for eternity…losing their salvation.
Every time I bring up Revelations to a Christian…or those who think they are Christians…and I bring up Revelations happening all around U.S. (we are still protected by the blessings of our forefathers-fading fast) and he or she tells me they are Pan-Trib…and giggle “It will all pan out in the end”…I see a starved to death/murdered/helpless martyr or a befuddled spiritually unprepared weakling who will take the mark.
I cannot say it is my approach. I just took the approach Jesus did when tempted by Satan. Just repeat scripture. Beside all glory to the Father.
So who cares what some guy thinks? I don’t care what some preacher thinks or says about prepping. God gave me a good clear mind to think with. I follow God’s Word as best I can. I do my best to adhere to the 10 Commandments. I go to church, worship and rest on the Sabbath (Saturday). I live at my address with my family. I don’t ask the preacher to pay my bills, feed me, and he doesn’t ask me either. I will lend anyone a hat to go take a crap in if they think they are going to influence my decision on this subject. In the Word it says, if you knew the hour a thief would come to your house to take your goods you would be there and you would be prepared to stop him. I too am “prepped” for the time when Satan would like to steal my goods and life. Like I said, I’m following the WORD.
