It makes me wonder the religion of the Blackhawk pilot; this looks very much like a terrorist event.

Yeah, thats my thinking. Everyone is so on edge, it almost seems some folks are hoping to see something bad happen rather than just accepting there was a fuckup. Finding a suicidal blackhawk pilot has to be pretty tough.

Aviation is THE 3D world (not what MOST people think). You fook it up in aviation, you get introduced to the 3rd dimension (height, altitude). All this talk of terrorism just shows the dumbfookery of people’s ignorance. TALK to people in aviation BEFORE showing one’s ignorance.

Having been IN aviation for 10 years (air medical, helos), flying over a city is challenging as low-flying aircraft lights simply blend in with the city lights below…..

Grumpy is an apt name. Some of us are in aviation; for me 14 years fast movers Naval Aviation, commercial pilot for 34 years. I was on mishap boards. I get that the commercial aircraft might miss seeing the helo, but the helo should 1. not be there, 2. be eyeballs out. I have flown about a half dozen types of helos as well, not that one, but I did look at the cockpit field of view and that commercial airliner was lit up like it should be; hard to miss unless you are Stevie Wonder.
The link to the flight paths is helpful; you can see the commercial airliner make just a small correction to get lined up with the runway right before impact. If it had been the helo that made that course change, it would support malice, but it was not. The helo pilot should have had eyeball on and got out the way, but then he shouldn’t have been there to begin with. You just don’t mix that type of traffic at a civilian airport, especially at night. Lots of blame to go around.

How many service members are operating “high” now days. With the availability of drugs it could be a lot. There were many of us operating very stoned in the 80’s. It was common until the pilot wrecked the plane into the deck of the Kitty Hawk. Then it was drug test for all and often. Just a thought.

Scary to think about. I did my carrier quals on the Kitty Hawk back in the 80’s.

This is one of those unfortunate incidents where “we” will never know the full details. In the past weeks helo’s have been sniffing all over the east coast. If the pilots had night vision on your view is restricted. This most likely was “human error”. Growing up in Nebraska/Dakotas we had an old cavalry saying: Custer said it best…Shit Happens!
