I spent the last seven days pretty much unplugged on vacation with my family.
I checked email a couple times. Barely watched any TV. Just enjoyed my family.
So after a week of being gone I come back home and Surprise – the world is still going to shit.
I missed the Mueller hearing, apparently I didnt miss much.
What will the Democrats do now? Do they stick with Putin paranoia? Do they pivot to talking about their party’s platform? “Hey America, let’s invite the entire world in and you get to pay for their stuff. And also for everyone else’s college. And you also get to repay the debt you don’t owe to people who weren’t slaves. And we’re banning SUVs and BBQs because of the weather in 2119. Vote Democrat!” This is not a viable policy program, except in the freakshow hothouse of some pinko-filled town hall conducted by the Socialist Squaw, Spartacus or Beto. More…
I also had a birthday while on vacation. My loving wife got me a gift certificate to my local gun store.
Which brings me to my question? How many guns do you really need?
I know I’d like more, but do I really need more?
Another gun? More Ammo? Accessories?
What to do?
Anyway its good to be home and I look forward to your comments.

As for me…I’m all about buying a new gun, I just ask one question first, what do you want the gun to do? Do you want it to be a battle rifle or handgun? Highland bird shooter? Put meat on the table? A main consideration for me, what with all the fuckery going on and sporty times sure to come, is a uniformity of ammo. I keep the various ammo types down to a minimum. 9mm, 5.56, .22, 12 gauge, 6.5 creedmore, .357. No mas. Unless I’m given a gun of a different caliber, I have no interest in going outside of those. Too many different types means too much to buy and carry when necessary. I have more ammo for the AR’s and handguns than anything else….Next is the shotgun and the .22.
“Three is two and two is one, but One is none”, is a valid standard in prepping. It means you need to have back ups for when one of your tools fails.
As to firearms, it means that you’re in a hurt when your only AR-15 quits and you have nothing else to shoot the warehouse of 5.56 ammo on hand. Likewise, carrying a sidearm in 9 mm with a long gun chambered for the same round means you have backup and don’t have to carry two different types of ammo. Having an AR-15 pistol and long gun using same rounds and magazines gives backup, even though it is awkward to try to carry both for any distance.
Yes, these decisions depend on the circumstances. Will you be in urban or rural environment? Will you be on patrol for days, or are you standing guard behind cover? . Where are you and what threats are most likely? Will you engage targets at 200 plus yard or within 100 yards? Who is with you and how are they armed & with what type and caliber of ammo?
Until you answer these questions you cannot reasonably decide what firearms to purchase.
IMHO, for newbies just starting out in prepping, buy a sidearm that fits your hand and which you can control ( as in: got difficulty racking the slide??? ) Then advance to a long gun with the same caliber and ammo. Later on you can branch out into the AR long guns after you are comfortable with what you already have.
This is just a start in making the decisions based on fact and logic. Others will have more views. Mine are just that : MINE. Just because your/ their ideas differ does not mean that either of us is wrong since there are so many variables to consider.
Believe me when I say that when The-Schumer-Hits and all becomes “Rwanda times Bosnia” (H/T Bracken) you will face the unknown with what you have on hand. It will then be too late to learn that you should have made other choices.
Just what is this “need” thing you talk about? Personally, I would “want” to get a firearm for a grandson. Something to put away until he is old enough to understand, which might just be too late for him to make his own purchase. Matter of fact, I am doing just that just now. First up was a Ruger 1022 (had his first shooting session last week) and a Cherry Yugo SKS (waiting til he is a bit bigger). Looks like it left the armory just yesterday. It is in the safe with the Glock 22 (his Daddy is a really big man, I suspect as much as he eats he will also), a Browning Buckmark and his Great Grandfather’s 16ga bird hunting shotgun. My Smith Model 10 will go in there at some point. Soon a DD AR15 will join in. Along with mags and ammo for him. I got mine, I want to be sure he gets his. The only grandson will be set.
need has nothing to do with it …. the question should be what do you want?
My grandmother was an Albright..
Man! You guys have got me itching here. Lol! The only question I’ve got when do we meet up for a little range time?
Spare parts, and caching.
“How many guns do you need ?”
None.
However….this is still the USA ! It is NOT about “need”. It is about “want” ! Thus, I have another weapon incoming. I WANT IT ! ! !
