I would answer --
A great many did in the 18 months after 9/11, when the TSA/DHS monster was being created. They knew what it meant, to “nationalize” airport security… or to “nationalize” anything, for that matter. This is the very essence and language of communism -- which “nationalizes” whatever it sees fit… “for the good of the people”, of course.

The FBI was heavily militarized in the late ’70s and early 80s as part of “the war on drugs”. Clinton accelerated that militarization, which lead to the massacres at Ruby Ridge and Waco by paramilitary forces under ‘civil’ command, using overwhelming force and equipment, which (at the time) many military commanders deemed excessive, even within the context of a declared war.

You are waiting for something which happened 16~30 years ago. Those who remain in Federal Service are of only two kinds -- the very young and ignorant, and the very wise and connected who are proud of what they do.

The young and ignorant will follow the orders they are given. Those orders will be given by men who know exactly what they are doing, and why they are doing it -- for the love of power, and the hope of amassing even more of it unto themselves, and the American citizens be damned.
