On Monday, CNBC host Rick Santelli broke down proposals in Washington to raise income taxes on the wealthy. He noted how policymakers are being dishonest about the Clinton-era rates, and charged that there is no interest in fiscal responsibility in the nation’s capital.
Santelli slammed the dishonesty of those in Washington pushing what he calls the myth that a return to Clinton-era tax rates would result in the prosperity seen in the 1990s.
Santelli said that those pushing this myth do not account for inflation, saying that those who made $250,000 per year in income in 1993 would today be making approximately $165,000 — a disparity of 35 percent.
“If the misses on income tax are this large when they’re talking to you over simple numbers, how long do you think it’s going to be before they get in your pocket,” Santelli asked middle class Americans. “All they’re after isn’t fixing the economy, it’s your bucks!”
