Saudi Arabia Sets Up Three Centers to Deal With MERS Outbreak

Saudi Arabia has set up three centers to treat and isolate patients with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome as the number of infected cases climbed to 323.

The facilities are located at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh, King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah, and Dammam Medical Complex in the Eastern Province, the officialSaudi Press Agency reported yesterday, citing acting Health Minister Adel Faqih. More centers will be opened in other parts of the country.

“This step comes as part of an emergency plan aiming to contain the spread of the virus,” said Faqih, according to Saudi Press Agency.

Experts Warn Ebola Virus Could Spread Across West Africa

Health experts have warned that the Ebola Virus could spread across West Africa in one of the most challenging outbreaks of the disease the international community has ever witnessed.

Scores of deaths in Guinea and in Liberia have been linked to the current outbreak of Ebola, which began in January, According to the spokesperson for the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tariq Jasarevic.

In Nigeria, health officials said seven reference disease centres were being upgraded nationwide to check any possible outbreak of the disease.
