William Forstchen, author of “One Second After” and Professor of History at Montreat College will be the featured speaker at the Sensible Mountain Preparedness Seminar on June 18th at the Haywood Community College. Professor Forstchen wrote this best selling book that takes place in Black Mountain, about the U.S. being decimated by EMP (electromagnetic pulse) bombs. The shock destroys all electronics and sends the country back to the fifteenth century. It is a fascinating, well-written book that should be on anyone’s list that is at all concerned about being prepared for disaster.
Several other speakers will present discussions, with question and answer periods, on subjects such as fire starting, food storage, water purification, retreat design, sanitation, disaster security and neighborhood organization in a disaster. The Haywood County Amateur Radio Club will give a talk and have a demonstration tent set up for those who are interested in learning how to become a ham radio operator.
With the weather created disasters over the past couple months, and the tsunami hitting Japan along with their nuclear power plant events, many people are extremely concerned about what to do if a disaster hits their neighborhood. This seminar, sponsored by Carolina Readiness Supply on Depot Street in Waynesville, will give people the knowledge needed to endure such disasters.
The seminar will begin at 8:30 sharp with registration beginning at 7:30 AM. The events will continue throughout the day with a lunch break and individual breakout sessions around the noon hour. The talks will conclude at 5 PM. Everyone is invited to attend this important day to learn how to become prepared for whatever disaster may befall your neighborhood.
